Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas

Queen of Shadow review title

Since I’m currently reading The Name of The Wind (which is a pretty hefty book) I’ve decided to upload a bonus review, because I don’t know when I’ll finish and review The Name of The Wind. And then I realized…I rave about the Throne of Glass series ALL THE TIME…but I don’t have a review for any of the books on here! So here I am, editing and extending a review I wrote when I read Queen of Shadows back when it was released.

There will be NO SPOILERS!!! Although I do advise you skip the synopsis if you haven’t read any of the previous books in the series.

So without further ado, let’s talk about Queen of Shadows!

TEXT - Review

Sarah J Maas never ceases to amaze me. Somehow I love this book even more than I thought I would, if that’s even possible.

I know this has VERY mixed reviews because of how much the plot and characters changed, but I’m on the I-absolutely-adore-this-book side of the argument.

First of all, the character development was incredible. Relationships changed as suited the plot, and I loved how new friendships were formed and new characters were brought in. My opinions on certain characters changed, but I don’t see this necessarily as a bad thing. I think it was realistic, showing that the story isn’t always going to go smoothly or as you’d expect. Since I won’t reveal too much, let me just say – LYSANDRA. Anyone who’s read the book will know what I mean. I also adored how every character’s story was gradually being woven together to create this one huge story of what happened in Erilea, and how different people were affected.

The amount of detail within the plot was outstanding! Everything was so cleverly planned out, with so much deception and sub plots, I was amazed. The story seemed to take on many twists, and I just could not stop reading, it had me gripped. The ending of part one I was especially impressed by. The world building element continued to be pieced together throughout, helping me imagine the world with such vivid images. And with such a wide cast of characters all viewing the story from a different angle, the world was built up even more as you read on, without you even realizing it.

I’ve become so attached to this series it’s unbelievable. I get really defensive over it, like with Harry Potter. Of course if people don’t like it, they can say without being attacked, but if I see people being unreasonably mean about it I get really offended. The amount of hard work Sarah J Maas put into these books is evident in every single one of them, and I honestly appreciate it so much.

This is one of those books that I immediately want to reread. And there’s not many. I applaud Sarah J Maas on creating such an incredible story, and I cannot wait for her next books!

Rated 5//5 stars!

  1. I love this book as well! I agree with on Lysandra. I absolutely adore her, and she is such a strong character which is good for Aelin. I’m glad to see you enjoyed this just as much as I did!
