It’s a tradition to think up some resolutions for every new year. Well, I changed mine up a bit. I have thought of 10 New Year’s resolutions related to books. I’ve seen that this is quite a popular thing for readers to think up some challenges like this, so I figured I’d give it a go too!
Here are my 10 bookish resolutions for 2016!
1. Read more historical fiction
I’ve been eyeing up a lot of historical fiction books lately, so I’m making it a mission to actually read some of them, since I never seem to get round to it. The Book Thief is one of my all time favourite books so I know I’d enjoy them. If you have any recommendations, leave a comment! I’ve currently got my eye on one called Prisoner of Night and Fog, so I’m hoping I can get it soon.
2. Collect more graphic novels and comics
I discovered graphic novels in 2015 and would love to build up my collection. I’m always more hesitant to buy them because they’re a lot more expensive compared to normal books, but I’m going to try and push this thought aside and try out more through 2016.
3. Read more classics
I don’t know how well this one will go. I have a very rocky relationship with classics, there’s only been a couple that I ended up liking. But I do own a bunch so I want to get round to reading them, and maybe collecting more.
4. Complete my Goodreads reading challenge
Since I read 66 books in 2016, I’m setting my Goodreads challenge to 50 books. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself to complete the challenge, plus I’m planning on reading some pretty huge books I 2016 (I mean, I’m starting the Outlander series so…). Plus 50 books works out to just over one book a week for the entire year, so this seems reasonable. It may still be a challenge because I’m hoping to get a job this year so I will have less time, but hopefully I’ll still complete it!
5. Try to get another signed book
I only own one book that is signed, and that’s my edition of A Court of Thorns and Roses, which I bought already signed. Whether it’s thorugh going to an author meetup, or buying it already signed, I’d loved if I could complete this little challenge.
6. Keep buying books!
A goal to spend more money? YES. I want my book collection to grow! One of my life goals is to have at least one wall of books when I have my own house in the future, so for that I need a LOT of books. Better keep buying!
7. Read Anne Frank: Diary of a young girl
I’ve owned this book for a while now and every so often I feel the need to read it, but never actually get around t it. I don’t read non-fiction books, but I’ll make an exception for this one. Plus this kind of links to the historical fiction resolution at the beginning, apart from it won’t be fiction.
I just really like history, OK?
8. Keep up with blogging
This one should be easy since I love blogging! Plus I now have a laptop so it should be SO much easier to keep up with posts than it was before! I hope to post at least twice a week, but maybe more.
9. Get to 500 followers on my blog
This is the one that I can’t control. Of course – my blog isn’t about the number of followers I have, it’s about all things books! BUT it would be INCREDIBLE if I could reach 500 followers on here and build up my little bookworm community! I’ve only been here blogging for a couple of months and I’m already nearing 200 followers (thank you!!) so I hope I can continue growing!
*fingers crossed*
10. Continue being my enthusiastic self
I want to stay happy and bubbly and enthusiastic about books! I mean, who would want to read a blog written by somebody who isn’t enthusiastic about the topic? I wouldn’t. So I hope to stay as I am and not let anything put me off course!
And since Geek Apprentice tagged me in the 2016 resolutions book tag, here are a few extras! I didn’t want to create an entire new post when I’ve written this one already, so I’ll think up more for the sections of the tag I have done instead.
Career/Academic resolutions
Hopefully I’ll get a part time job to go along with my studies so I can earn some money.
Personal resolutions
Stay calm. I panic and worry too often so I just need to calm down and know that everything will be OK in the end 🙂
So those are my bookish resolutions of 2016!
Are any of these the same or similar to yours? Let me know in the comments!

I’m setting my goal as the same as 2015 too bc I’ve read the first 3 books in the Outlander series and I intend to read the rest in 2016 and they’re all 1k pages long XD they count as two books XD

I think you’re the only one who has “buy more books” on their new year resolutions. 🙂 I could totally get on board with that (I’m also stealing your reason for buying them).

Everyone says that haha! Seems a valid reason

It’s so nice to see someone wanting to read more historical fiction! I never see anyone read it much anymore, but I love it and need to read more of it myself. It’s such an underrated genre!
Good luck with your goals, Ashleigh!

I know, I never see that many people read it but I personally love anything I’ve read from that genre 🙂 And thank you!

I am with you with buying Graphic Novels! I just normally borrow them from the library, but I would like to own a couple this year.

I find it quite satisfying to own some. No idea why. Just adds something different to my shelves 🙂

Yeah I completely understand you! And it will be nice to just pick up a graphic novel whenever you feel like it.

I also want to read more historical fiction this year. I’ve decided to not read as much contemporary fiction so I can read more historical, since contemporary is the genre I enjoy overall the least. And, of course, keep up with blogging and stay enthusiastic about reading and blogging! That’s very important. Looks like you’ve got some great goals to work toward, Ashleigh! All the best! Happy New Year!

I don’t like contemporary much myself so I’ll just replace it with that too 🙂 Happy new year to you too!

I have a goal to tackle 7 classics. I have 1984, Animal Farm, and the Jane Austen collection that I plan to get to this year. If any of these books interest you, let me know and perhaps we could do a Classics Buddy Read.

I’m interested in reading 1984, but I don’t have that book yet and probably won’t get it for a while so I wouldn’t be able to plan a buddy read for it. Plus I really need to be in the mood for classics to read them! The word “tackle” suits them right haha!
