2015 Annual End of Year Book Survey!

2015 end of year survey

(Logo & title images from the original post, made by Jamie @ Perpetual Page Turner)

I saw this on 2 different blogs: Georgia @ Books And Other Miracles and Mariana @ Fireheartbooks because they were both so lovely in mentioning me in one of their answers ❤ I loved reading through these posts so I’ve decided that instead of just posting the blog award post today, I’ll do this as an added little (not so little) bonus!

PS. I’m hoping to finish reading The Wrath and the Dawn tonight so hopefully I’ll have a review up tomorrow!

This is going to be a long post, so get comfortable and enjoy!

reading stats

Number of books you read: 66

Number of Rereads: 4

Genre you read the most from: Young Adult Fantasy

Best in books

Best book you read in 2015?

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas or The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

~~~
Book you were excited about and thought you were going to love more but didn’t?
The Salem Witch Society by K.N. Shields. I love reading things about witchcraft but this really didn’t have much to do with it. It was a crime book. I enjoyed it to some extent but was still quite disappointed how it turned out to be nothing like what I expected.
~~~

Most surprising (in a good or bad way) book that you read?

Pride and Prejudice – surprising in a good way. I struggle to get into classics but when I started this one I became a tiny bit obsessed. I wanted to read it all the time and I wanted to watch the TV adaptation. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. And it surprised me because it was a classic. I actually enjoyed a classic…a lot!

~~~
Book you “pushed” most people to read (and they did)?
Cinder, the first book in The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE I DID THIS THOUGH. I didn’t realize until now how many times I’ve gotten people to read this book! I bought it for my friend for Christmas because she wanted it after hearing me go on about it. And on quite a few of my earlier posts, there’s comments from people saying they’ve started the book because of how I talk about it in my posts.
~~~

Best series you started in 2015? Best sequel of 2015? Best series ender of 2015?

Best series I started: Either The Name of the Wind or The Queen of the Tearling

Best sequel: The Mime Order, 2nd book in The Bone Season series

Best Series Ender: The Blood of Olympus

Favourite new author you discovered in 2015?

Victoria Schwab (otherwise known as V.E. Schwab). I read A Darker Shade of Magic at the beginning of 2015, and Vicious later on, and loved both. I’m eagerly waiting the second book in the ADSOM series and I’m wanting to read more of her books in the future.

~~~
Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This is a SciFi book, and I’ve only read a few SciFi books before so this one surprised me greatly when I loved it so much!
~~~

Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas and The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich. I think I read both in about 2 days because I didn’t want to do anything else with my days while there was some of the story left untold!

~~~
Book You Read In 2015 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
Queen of Shadows. I know I keep giving this book as an answer but I don’t reread books often, and I know that when Throne of Glass 5 is near it’s release date, I’ll reread this one so I can jump straight ahead with the story.
~~~

Favourite cover of a book you read in 2015?

Oh there’s so many! But I’ll narrow it down to Shadow and Bone, Cress and The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender.

~~~
Most memorable character of 2015?
Either Aelin Galathynius or Percy Jackson. Got to love them both ❤
~~~

Most beautifully written book read in 2015?

Maybe Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I think I remember writing about how much I loved her writing style in my review

~~~
Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2015?
I’m going to say the Illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone because Harry Potter changed my life when I was younger and has stayed with me until this day, so to have an illustrated edition is such a gift.
~~~

Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2015 to finally read?

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I still need to read the 2nd and 3rd books but they’re on my January TBR so that’ll be sorted soon enough 🙂

~~~
 15. Favourite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2015?
Oh good grief I don’t know … Maybe this one? It’s probably not my favourite but I love how it’s worded.
“In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”
-Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
~~~

Shortest & Longest book you read in 2015?

Shortest: Saga Volume 1

Longest: Either A Dance With Dragons Part 1 by George RR Martin or The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

~~~
Book that shocked you the most?
The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon because THAT ENDING.
~~~

OTP of the year (you will go down with this ship!)

Rowaelin – Rowan and Aelin – from Throne of Glass, of course.

~~~
Favourite non-romantic relationship of the year?
Poppet and Widget from The Night Circus. They’re twins, brother and sister, and even though you don’t see a HUGE amount of them in the book, I adore them ❤
~~~

Favourite Book You Read in 2015 From An Author You’ve Read Previously?

It was difficult choosing one for this, but I’m going to go with The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. I read his book More Than This is 2014.

~~~
Best Book You Read In 2015 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure
Looking For Alaska by John Green. The amount of people that kept telling me to read this was irritating me so I read it, and as I suspected, I didn’t enjoy it as much as everybody else seems to.
~~~

Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2015?

Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses

~~~
Best 2015 debut you read?
Either The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich or The Sin-Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury. At least I think they’re both debuts…
~~~

Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

The world of Prythian in A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas

~~~
Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
Half-Blood by Jennifer L Armentrout
~~~

Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2015?

Actually…none.

~~~
Hidden Gem Of The Year?
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I adored this book.
~~~

Book That Crushed Your Soul?

I’m going to go with A Court of Thorns and Roses for this one.

~~~
Most Unique Book You Read In 2015?
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. Think along the lines of three/four parallel Londons, travelling, magic, pirates, and a really cool reversible coat.
~~~

Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?

Queen of Shadows. I remember getting mad about how some of the characters were acting – one character in particular – but it was all part of the story.

~~~
blogging life
New favourite book blog you discovered in 2015?
I only began blogging this year so where do I even start?! I’ll name a few of my favourites that come to my head as I type. I always read these people’s posts every time I see they’ve uploaded one, and I just love how friendly each of them are!
Mariana @ Fireheartbooks
Olivia @ Heir of Glitter
Georgia @ Book And Other Miracles
Emmi @ Books With Ems
Alysyn @ ReinReads
Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels
And so many other people who frequently comment and like my posts ❤ Don’t feel disheartened if I didn’t mention you directly because I love you all! 🙂
~~~

Favourite review that you wrote in 2015?

Another hard question…I’ll say The Name of the Wind. I remember loads of people wanting to know how I was enjoying it, so I couldn’t wait to tell everyone I really liked it. Plus with such a hefty book, I had plenty to write about.

My review for The Name of the Wind

~~~
Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?
Even though it was posted right on the very last day of 2015, I’d say my 2015 Wrap Up – where I basically list every single book I read in 2015 along with it’s title. It took me ages to do that.
My Year In Books – 2015 Wrap Up
Other than that…maybe my bookish bad habits? I don’t think many people have seen that one because it was one of the first posts I did.
Bookish Bad Habits
~~~

Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?

I don’t think I took part in any events really…

~~~
Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2015?
Reaching 100 followers in just over a month! I love seeing my little book community grow!
~~~

Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

Trying to figure out the design elements. I’m not too good with technology so all this was beyond me. Luckily I’ve gotten used to it now.

~~~
Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?
I think it might be my review for The Name of the Wind. But I don’t know how to check properly so I’m not sure.
~~~

Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?

All of my reviews, since they’re the main reason I have this blog.

~~~
Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?
I discovered that one of the shops I really like to go in for cheap books (called The Works) has a website and they deliver to your house. I had no idea.
~~~

Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?

The only goal I set was my Goodreads goal, which I set really low last year so I passed it easily.

~~~
looking ahead
One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2015 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2016?
None really, just the ones I got for Christmas. I started reading The Wrath and The Dawn right at the end of the year so my priority is to finish that tonight.
~~~

Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2016 (non-debut)?

Throne of Glass 5, without a doubt!

~~~
2016 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?
I can’t think of any at this moment in time.
~~~

Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2016?

Throne of Glass 5 by Sarah J Maas

 A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

The Sleeping Prince by Melinda Salisbury

The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh (even though I’m not quite done with The Wrath and the Dawn yet)

I mean you could probably just look on here because most of these books are sequels: Top 10 anticipated releases of 2016

~~~
One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2016?
I’d love to get to 500 followers on here! I know it’s not about the numbers but that’d just be incredible!
~~~

A 2016 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone

I haven’t read any 2016 releases yet but I already recommend Throne of Glass 5 to everybody.

~~~
Now that was one hell of a long post!
Thank you for reading!
  1. Haha loved reading this! There were so many question! Thank you so much for the mention! You’ve made my day! 😉 Which character were you angry with in QoS? I probably know but haven’t read it in a while! Xx
    1. Aw that’s sweet haha! You deserved the mention anyway 🙂 And I was angry with Chaol. I know people are split between loving how Aelin has developed and hating how it so different from the original story, but the second he started saying she was a monster I was just like “no no no what’re you doing?!?” haha! x
      1. Sorry I only just read this! That’s so kind of you! I remember about Chaol now, yeah he was being super nasty to Aelin. Grr. X
  2. Thank you so much for mentioning me! 🙂 You’re so sweet too & I’m happy I meet people like you through blogging. I still have to read The Mime Order but now I’m so exciting because it has an epic ending!? Gah! Can’t wait!
    1. Aw thank you 😀 And I really hope you enjoy The Mime Order as much as I did, when I got to the last hundred pages or so I could NOT put it down for the life of me. I had to know what happened haha!
  3. I didn’t even realise you were ‘pushing’ me into reading Cinder until I continued with the series after seeing it mentioned in one of your posts! Also I loved Queen of Shadows – it’s one beast of a book to re-read before the next release (which I am also recommending even though I haven’t read it yet ahah), I hope you enjoy it just as much 😀 I will definitely be re-reading the first book sometime soon because it’s one of my all time favourites
    1. I must just talk about it a lot without even noticing haha! 😀 And I know, Queen of Shadows will be a huge book to reread but I did it this year with Heir of Fire so I’ve just got a feeling it’ll happen again 🙂 I’ll be too excited about the next release to just sit and wait!
  4. Percy ❤ Tamlin ❤ And while I haven't read The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, I will agree that the cover for it is simply stunning. Shatter Me is a gorgeously written book; I love Tahereh Mafi's writing. Great post!! I love that it's long — It's fascinating seeing how other readers answered these questions and what their reading year was like. 🙂
