Cover Reveal: Heartless by Marissa Meyer

heartless cover reveal

GUYS. THERE’S BEEN A COVER REVEAL FOR ONE OF MY MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS FOR THIS YEAR.

IT’S HERE.

AND IT’S EXCITING.

AND I ACTUALLY DID KNOW THIS WAS HAPPENING WHICH IS WHY THE CAPS LOCK ARE IN ORDER.

No but seriously, I somehow missed that there would be a cover reveal for Heartless today, so when I saw Marissa Meyer’s tweet about it, I sort of freaked out slightly.

So here’s a spontaneous completely-not-planned-on-my-schedule blog post with the cover, and my thoughts!

So here it is…

Heartless

So what do you think?

I like it, BUT after my love for the covers of The Lunar Chronicles, I was expecting a bit more than just a pattern covering the entire thing. I thought there might have been a magical feel to it since it’s once again a fairytale retelling, but right now it just seems a bit simple.

I feel like I’ll love it once I actually own a physical copy though. I can imagine myself holding a paperback, with the dark cover reflecting light back and the pattern being striking compared. And I can just imagine the Bookstagram photos now, how much it’ll stand out ❤

If you wish to see the original article that Marissa Meyer linked in her tweet, which includes both the cover reveal AND A SMALL EXCERPT OF THE BOOK (!!!) …

And now, after a lot of caps lock and exclamation marks, I want to know YOUR opinions on the cover!

Are you planning on reading this book?

  1. This kind of gives me the ACOTAR cover vibes. I actually wouldn’t pick this cover up in a bookstore if I didn’t know Meyer’s name, but, since I do, I will make sure that everyone I know picks this up! 😂

    1. I thought that at first. The cover we had beforehand was just the black background so all that was added really was the red pattern vines. But I think in a physical copy it’ll be simple but effective 🙂 I’ll read it either way, it sounds amazing!

  2. I am so excited for Heartless to be released; I love Marissa Meyer and Alice in Wonderland so it’s one of my most anticipated read for 2016. I’m definitely going to pre-order this soon but I think Marissa Meyer could re-write a phone book and I’d still buy it. I agree with you about the cover though, after The Lunar Chronicles I was expecting something more but I still really like it.

  3. I’m actually kind of disappointed 😦 I have no doubt the series will be awesome, but I was hoping for some type of cool Alice in Wonderland-esque twist of a cover like her Lunar Chronicles ones had been. Darn. I do still think it’s pretty, but it’s less than I wanted. Hopefully this doesn’t mean they’ll change it for the following books! I’d rather not have yet another series with covers that don’t match.

    1. With the amount of really REALLY good Alice in Wonderland art I’ve seen over the years, I have to agree. I thought they’d come up with something really imaginative and interesting to look at. It’s alright though, not the worst cover I’ve seen. Just not what I was expecting 🙂

  4. Ooh! I didn’t even know that this was a thing until now. Why did I not know this? I’m kind of freaking out right now… I see what you mean about the cover, although I agree that it will be gorgeous in physical form.

    1. I’m usually behind on book news too, I’m surprised I saw this soon enough to blog about it to be honest! I freaked out when I found out she was writing another book too… especially another retelling 😀

      1. Yes, same here. And I just read the excerpt. Obviously I’m a bit confused because I don’t know the rest of the story but I’m so excited for it to come out! Plus, the fact that it’s an Alice in Wonderland retelling makes it even better. That is one of my favorite childhood stories.

          1. If you like fairy tale retellings Once Upon A Time is the perfect show to watch. I love the storyline and there are a lot of mind blowing realizations throughout the show. It’s amazing.
