This weeks’ discussion post is a lighter topic but very well loved: Bookstagram.
Since the last two discussions have been questions, this one will be just a general share-your-ideas-accounts-and-chat type discussion.
So let’s talk about Bookstagram!
For the people who are a bit confused…What is Bookstagram?
Bookstagram is the bookish side of Instagram! It’s the place where bookworms like me post photos of books and anything else related. All in all, it’s a great place.
~~~
But…what’s the point in Bookstagram?
Well, some people might think there isn’t a point to it. I mean, why only post photos of books over and over again?
My answer to that is: Because I want to and I can. Because books are pretty and look good in photos. Because I am a HUGE bookworm and everything in my life is related to books.
I personally love the bookstagram community. I adore taking photos and sharing what I think. It’s sort of like a preview to my blog, or little snippets. I love asking questions in my captions, and I get so happy when people comment on my photos in return! And I especially love taking the time to look through and commenting on everyone else’s bookish photos – I find it so interesting!
~~~
Are there any issues with Bookstagram?
I guess there is. I mean, there are times where I hear about people stealing other people’s photos and claiming them as their own, but these cases don’t happen all that often and are always reported.
But I haven’t ever seen any hate or mean comments on bookstagram. I’m sure they exist, since they do in most places, but they must be very rare for me to have bookstagram for about a year and not see anything of the sort.
For me personally, the only issues I end up having is trying to take a decent photograph. I seriously do struggle with that.

Do you have a Bookstagram account?
As I’ve already mentioned, I do!
Here’s an insight to the sort of things I post. If you’re feeling nice enough, go check it out! There’ll be a link below, or you can click on the preview in the sidebar.
Now it’s your turn!
Do you have a Bookstagram account? If you do, leave your username or a link in the comments below and I’ll be sure to check it out! (unless I already follow you there, of course)
If you don’t have a Bookstagram, why not? Would you ever consider getting one?
Do you have any issues with Bookstagram – like I have issues with taking decent photos sometimes? (damn the bad lighting)
Let me know what you think!

Yay, I’m following you now.
I do have a bookstagram (@rakioddbooks) but I don’t promote it much. I don’t post much and compared to others, my pictures are rather unimpressive. I have no way of changing that at the moment, but maybe later on. I still enjoy taking pictures of my pretty books,which is why I have it. Looking at pretty pictures of pretty books is pretty fun too.

If you enjoy taking photos there shouldn’t be any reason stopping you 🙂 Plus it always feels good to show off pretty books haha! And by the way I like your photos 😀

I don’t have a separate account of my book blog, but I do post bookstagram pics on my personal Instagram. Hm..maybe I should have a separate account! Anywho, I’m following you now!

Mine was originally a personal account, which you can see if you scroll back far enough, but I just used to post more about books than myself so I changed it. And thank you!

I have a bokstagram account and we already follow each other but for others, my user name is @perfectioninbooks
My main problem sometimes is that I don’t have ideas and less creative ideas for pictures. But then inspiration comes and I have to takie advantage of it.
And I had my beautiful camera and now is broken and the quality of my pics just isn’t the same.
But I really enjoy Bookstagram! I love taking photos and I love seein others! There are so many talented people out there!

I’m the same haha! I have times when I have no ideas and then when I do I take loads of photos in advance. And I agree about people being talented – there are times I see accounts and just spend ages looking through and being amazed 😀

I’ve never used instagram much, I think I have like three pictures on there after several years of having the account hahaha. But I think I might try to make a bookstagram when I get my new phone (I have an iPhone4 now and the pictures it takes are pretty mediocre). We’ll see! I enjoy pretty pictures of books so it could be fun.

Maybe you’ll be inspired to take more photos if you have a good camera on your phone. I know I do 🙂

I used to have a bookstagram but I couldn’t keep up with it and I wasn’t all that happy with it so I deleted it. But I am thinking about starting another one soon now that I’ve stocked up on some good books and have a book blog. It would definitely help promote my blog and I love taking photos of books. I don’t know, I’m still thinking about it. 🙂 Great post and I love your bookstagram! 😀

it looks pretty and I can see the appeal- I just rarely take photos of anything!

It’s not for everyone I guess 🙂

I enjoy it, although my account (@samfalston) is a mix of bookstagram, travel and other life stuff. I like looking at other people’s accounts to see what books they are reading and what they think of new books.
Cons- not sure really… maybe the fact that sometimes popular book tags get spammed with porn photos – have you guys ever noticed that? It really annoys me. Also I wish there was more variety, I think everyone tends to read the same sort of books.
But other than that I love bookstagram! 🙂

Oh I’ve never seen a book tag get spammed like that! That’s quite surprising actually. I get what you mean about people seeming to read similar books. Bookstagram definitely adds to hype so people get all the popular books. I do the same though, so I can’t really complain.

Me too honestly (getting the popular books) 🙂 I’ve found some good ones that way like Throne of Glass, so I guess I shouldn’t complain.
