You know sometimes, while reading a book do you ever get a moment where you see a character’s name and think “Oh wow I really like that name!”?
Because I do.
Quite often actually.
Well, that’s what this post is inspired by.
Since I haven’t done a Top 10 post in a while, I’ve basically chosen my Top 10 character names that I can’t help but love.
So here we go!
Aelin Galathynius
from the Throne of Glass series
Not so much for the last name – that’s just a handful to say – but I really like the name “Aelin”. I seem to have a thing for uncommon names, as you’ll see throughout the rest of this post. But since reading the Throne of Glass series, this name has always stuck with me. And plus Aelin is one of my favourite characters, so…
Locke Lamora
from the Gentleman Bastard series
Admittedly, I’ve not even read this book yet. I intend to at some point this year. I’ll get round to it eventually. But you’ve got to admit, the name has a nice ring to it, right?
Ava Lavender
from The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender
Even though this is her full name, I just love it as a whole. I’ve always liked the name Ava, but paired with Lavender? I love it! Kind of wish I was called Ava Lavender, not going to lie.
Leisel Meminger
from The Book Thief
Throwing a German name into the mix. Again, this is a name that’s always stuck with me, probably because it’s from one of my favourite books. Like with the uncommon names thing, I tend to like names that are from another language – probably because they’re uncommon to me.
Jaxon Hall
from The Bone Season series
Even though I don’t like the character – he’s one of those characters I love to hate – I quite like his first name. It’s probably just because it has an X in it…I have a strange mind like that.
Luna Lovegood
from the Harry Potter series
A favourite character and a favourite name. Again, here’s another one with a nice ring to it. Although I do like the name Luna on it’s own too, so it’s a win win situation.
Blue Sargent
from The Raven Cycle series
This is one that I’ve discovered recently, since I read The Raven Boys last week. Blue Sargent is just such a quirky name, I literally adore it. Every time I read it I had the “oh my god I love that name” moment all over again.
Tessa Gray
from The Infernal Devices series
This name is one that has grown on me. Again, I’m not so bothered about the last name, but the name Tessa seems quite elegant to me. That might just be because of the character herself, but who knows. I still really like the name.
Ezra Mason
from the Illuminae Files series
Oh look, another name with an uncommonly used letter of the alphabet. How predictable 😀 I don’t really know what else to say. I just like the name Ezra. Although I didn’t at first, so I don’t know what made me change my mind.
Nico Di Angelo
from the Heroes of Olympus series
I’ve always loved the name Nico. Especially with his last name – it just feels so good to say. I feel like this is another one that’s from a different language…Italian was it? I can’t remember where it said he’s from, I read the series so long ago. I just remember him going from…I think it was Venice, to living in the US.
So there we have it!
Those are my Top 10 Favourite Character Names!
Are any of these names favourites of yours too?
Or are there any other character names you particularly like?

I love your post ideas! I like the name Ava too. I like how it rolled off my tongue. And that’s such a beautiful book to pair with beautiful name.
Yup, Nico’s mom is Italian. also like his siblings’ names, Bianca Di Angelo and Hazel Levesque.

Thank you! And the book really is beautiful ❤
I thought Nico was part Spanish at first and then was like "wait no…that's not right". Thinking about it now, Hazel is a nice name too… 😀

I love this post so much, Ashleigh – probably because I have a bit of a thing for names. I really enjoy just researching names, haha! But omg doesn’t any mention of The Book Thief just make you want to dissolve into a puddle of tears? *sniffles*. But oooh The Raven Boys! Yessss! I’m reading the second book in that series right now and I just love it. So much. Blue Sargent does have a lovely name XD.

I love the name Aelin! I used to know a girl named Aylin, and I like it a teensy bit more with a y. Great post Ashleigh 🙂

I must say that I do love the more uncommon names as well, they always stick out in my mind (though spelling them can be a real pain ahah, even after reading a whole series it’s not uncommon for me to have to check the name spelling after writing a review!) Aelin is a particular favourite ❤

I had to check the spelling of Galathynius while writing this up haha! I know how to spell it, but even then I just wanted to be sure.
