March Wrap-Up

So here we are, having reached the end of another month. Which means it’s time to do one of my favourite type of blog posts…a Wrap Up!

As always, I’ll be listing all the books I’ve read this month, along with what I’m currently reading, the blog posts I wrote this month (that weren’t reviews), and a few updates about my life in general.

Books I read this month

So this month I read 12 books – which REALLY surprised me. I read quite a few short books though: 2 graphic novels, and 2 really short books that were under 50 pages or so. I think there was only one 5 star read this month, though some books came really close. And there were quite a few 4 star ratings. So here are the books I read this month:

A Gathering of Shadows

Once my preorder of this book arrived on my doorstep, I started it immediately. As seen in my February Wrap Up, I was already halfway through it, and it didn’t take me long at all to finish the rest.

I actually feel like I read this months ago. I’m not sure why. I think it’s been quite a long month reading-wise.

Solitaire

by Alice Oseman

This one I didn’t quite know what to think of. People seem to love it so much, so I had high hopes. But really, to me it was very stereotypical rather than “realistic”, and it kept making me cringe quite often.

Though I didn’t like it all that much, a lot of people do really love this book, so if you’re interested in it, don’t be too discouraged by my review!

The Wicked and the Divine Volume 1

This was the Blogger Bookclub’s March book of the month, along with the challenge “read a graphic novel”. Since I was a host for March, I obviously read the set book. This was my third time reading this book, so my review is from late last year, because I had nothing else to add to it this time round.

We held a giveaway for this book and the winner has now been chosen and notified 😀

You can actually get this graphic novel quite cheaply on Amazon at the minute, so if you’re interested definitely check the link below the image. I know how frustrating it can be to pay loads for such a short read!

Jason and Medea

I read this one purely because I was reading Winter at the same time, but the sheer size of that book meant I couldn’t carry it around in my bag to college. So I took this really tiny Penguin Little Black Classic to read instead.

With this book literally being about 50 pages, I didn’t have enough to write about in a review. There’s a really small review on Goodreads, but it’s only 3 sentences long. Basically, I enjoyed the story because it was Greek Mythology, and hope to pick up more. And with them only being about 80p, I’m sure I will.

Winter

by Marissa Meyer

I finally got round to finishing The Lunar Chronicles! Well, the actual story. I haven’t gotten Stars Above yet. But anyway, this beast of an over 800 page book intimidated me for a while, but I decided to tackle it this month, and that I did (I managed to make that sound like an epic battle, right?). Anyway, I really enjoyed the ending to this series, and I can’t wait to read Stars Above to see just that little bit extra more.

All the Bright Places

by Jennifer Niven

This is one of those books that kind of left me in a shocked silence when I finished it. Which really surprised me, because when I started it I didn’t think I was going to like it that much. But luckily I did, and I’m glad I read it!

Am I Normal Yet?

by Holly Bourne

I fell in love with this book immediately. It was so entertaining, and yet managed to tackle so so so many issues without seeming too preach-y. This is the first Holly Bourne book I read, and I immediately went and bought two more of her books after finishing this. I loved it that much.

Salt to the Sea

Dabbling more into the historical fiction genre, I picked up a Ruta Sepetys book. She seems to be quite popular in this genre, so I chose out her newest book to try. I quite enjoyed it, and it was a quick read. Since reading, I’ve picked up another of her books and I’m hoping to read that soon.

East of West

by Jonathan Hickman & Nick Dragotta

To put it simply, I didn’t like this graphic novel all that much. I couldn’t wrap my head around what was happening. I honestly considered not finishing this, then scolded myself and pushed on, since it’s a graphic novel and will literally take about half an hour to read.

This went towards the march challenge for the blogger bookclub too, so at least there’s that.

The Dream Thieves

I was late to the Raven Boys game, but I’m here, and I’m gradually catching up. I bought the second book at the start of the month after loving the first one, and this one was loved just as much. Oh how I adore the main characters in this story ❤

Prisoner of Night and Fog

by Anne Blankman

Again with the historical fiction mood. I’ve been wanting to read this book since late last year and now I’ve finally gotten round to it. I was caught up in this story immediately, and I ended up really liking the main character Gretchen. This book alone would have encouraged me to pick up more historical fiction, even if I wasn’t already interested.

On the Merits of Unnaturalness

by Samantha Shannon as Jaxon Hall

I fangirled so hard when I got this. So hard.

Although it’s only 37 pages long, I had A LOT to say about it. So even though it was shorter than the Jason and Medea book, I did actually write a full review for this one. It was such a helpful pamphlet/companion novel to The Bone Season series, and I loved the idea of it!

I am currently reading…

So today I’m going to be starting Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi. This is the second book in the Shatter Me series. I read Shatter Me quite a while ago, so it’s probably about time I continued on. And as you can tell from the photo, this was featured in yesterday’s book haul.

It actually took me so long to decide which book to read next. I couldn’t decide between this one, Neverfade, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Between Shades of Gray. But I decided I’d continue the series’ first, and the Shatter Me series is the one I started longest ago…so here I am! Well, actually The Darkest Minds is the one I started longest ago so I should read Neverfade, but I reread that before Christmas so I can still remember that story well for now. Anyway, I’m rambling.

Life in General

So March for me has basically felt like one big holiday. My college course has a ridiculous amount of weeks where we work at home, and that combined with Easter meant I was at home more than at college.

Which was probably a good thing because my headaches and migraines really hit me hard this month. For quite a few days I couldn’t leave my house – or even my bed – thanks to those bloomin’ migraines. But they’ve gone now (thank god) so all is well.

I reached a few milestones this month, which was exciting. My bookstagram account got to 600 followers! I’ve finally figured out how to take half-decent photos that are bright and not blurry, and it must be showing considering the sudden rise in followers 😀

And even more excitingly…

My blog reached 300 followers!

This has already been announced, and in celebration I’ll be doing a Q&A on Tuesday. If you haven’t already and want to, you can click here to leave questions in the comments of the post, and your questions will be included in the Q&A. I’ll be writing it up this evening so questions won’t be taken in after tonight, so ask while you can! 😀

And to finish off, I had quite a few fangirl moments regarding authors this month. Samantha Shannon and Holly Bourne both tweeted me about my reviews of their books, and I was honestly so pleased that they actually read my reviews and took the time to thank me for them ❤
