Q&A – answering all your lovely questions!

Q&A

So a few days ago I took in any questions you guys wanted to ask me, in the hope that I would receive enough to be able to do a Q&A.

Well, you guys went above and beyond my expectations, because I got WAY more questions than I thought I would! It’s amazing, thank you all so much!

So now’s the time I answer them all. They’re listed in the order I received them in, and I’m pretty sure I got everybody’s questions in the list. The person who asked will be written underneath 🙂

So let’s chat!

Do you have a go-to book recommendation that you love to recommend to everyone you meet?

Emma @ The Terror of Knowing

As anybody who knows me in person will know, I am such a bad influence when it comes to books. I get everyone to buy the books I love. But as for go-to recommendations….hmm. I tend to recommend A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, or The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich if they want something different. I usually change my recommendations to suit their taste!

~~~
What book did you hate?
– Emma @ The Terror of Knowing
The Left Hand of God. It looked like an epic fantasy that I’d love, but I couldn’t even finish it. I think I had to force myself to read 100 pages, and then admitted defeat and left it. I just didn’t like the characters, story line, setting…anything really.
~~~

What was the first book you remember loving?

– Emma @ The Terror of Knowing

My first thought was Harry Potter, since I read Philosopher’s Stone when I was 7 years old. But thinking back I used to read this Illustrated Peter Rabbit Collection and the Faraway Tree collection by Enid Blyton – both of which I still own because they meant that much to me. So those were the earliest books I loved, that I remember.

~~~
What’s been your favorite part of book blogging so far?
Kourtni @ Kourtni Reads
You guys! Definitely! 😀 Every time any of you comment on my blog posts, or even chat to me on twitter (etc) I get so happy! Just knowing that you guys actually enjoy reading my blog, and willing talk to me…to me that’s so rewarding.
~~~

What are some of your favorite book blogs?

– Kourtni @ Kourtni Reads

Ohhh this is when I don’t want to choose out specific people because I honestly love reading everyone’s! But if I must, I’ll list a few that spring to mind…

 A Stranger’s Guide To NovelsFiction and TeaQuirky and PeculiarHeir of GlitterMystery Reader / Mysterious Beauties Fireheartbooks, Josie’s Book Corner

The list could go on, seriously, but I’ll end it there because I’ve already spent ages trying to decide!

~~~
What is your favorite reading spot?
Olivia @ Heir of Glitter
My bed! I’m always freezing so I wrap up under my duvet surrounded by pillows every time I read 🙂
~~~

Do you have any hobbies aside from art and reading?

– Olivia @ Heir of Glitter

Singing, definitely. Though I’m really picky about the music I listen to so I just sing the same songs over and over again, which probably annoys everyone to death.

~~~
What fictional world do you want to visit the most?
– Olivia @ Heir of Glitter
The Wizarding world of Harry Potter – Hogwarts. I know right, what a surprise. But it’s been an over 10 year obsession of mine, so can you blame me?
~~~

What real place do you want to visit the most?

– Olivia @ Heir of Glitter

Um…the wizarding world of Harry Potter in Orlando? 😀 Seems the closest I’d get to the real thing at least.

No but really, I’d love to visit Greece, or go back to Scotland and explore it more!

~~~
Favourite Disney movie?
Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels
Beauty and the Beast, and Tangled. How could I just choose one?
I could pretty much be a mix of Belle and Rapunzel with the reading, painting and singing (HA I wish).
~~~

What is your patronus?

– Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels

I like to think it’d be a wolf, because it’s my favourite animal. But I have a feeling my patronus would actually be a cat.

~~~
If you could meet one book villain who would you meet?
– Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels
Queen Levana.
Hear me out.
I absolutely can’t stand her, and she’s one of my favourite villains because of that. But I’d literally want to meet her out of curiosity. I’d want to see what her glamour looked like, and possibly what she looks like without it (if that was even possible during my stay there).
~~~

Was there a specific book that made you want to create a blog right then and there?

Grace @ Quirky and Peculiar

I wouldn’t say there was one in particular, but maybe a few. I remember I used to write really short reviews on instagram, but I hardly had any followers then and I felt like my reviews needed a better way to be seen. I had a whole bunch of favourites, like A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Dead House, that I wanted to talk about and share more, so those reviews were within the first few to be published here.

~~~
How did you go about designing your blog, and how long did it take you?
Jorlene @ Page Chronicles
Oh it took me ages! I took my time looking through downloadable backgrounds, messing around with the widgets and colour themes. When I started I had this rose design that just looked really dark, and all my photos were awful (I’ve recently gone back and changed them).
flower
And I still wasn’t happy. Happy enough to start publishing things, yeah. But I wanted a better theme. I got bored of the one above really quickly. So I started thinking about it, and decided I wanted it to look kind of whimsical and bright coloured. And after deciding this it was much easier to figure out a design I liked. Though I did ask plenty of people before sticking to it. I think overall it took me a good week or so in January (I think) to get it this way. And that’s after I’d decided what I wanted. Before that it took a good 3 months or so.
~~~

Do you keep your blog a secret or do you share it publicly with people you know?

– Jorlene @ Page Chronicles

I share it publicly. I’m proud of this blog, and I don’t have any reason to hide it. And quite frankly, if people find it weird that I blog, I don’t really care. I love blogging and reviewing books, so that’s all that matters 🙂

~~~
Have you ever thought about starting a BookTube?
– Jorlene @ Page Chronicles
Oh my god YES! I used to want to be a booktuber so bad, but wouldn’t be able to. I don’t have a filming camera or tripod, good background and lighting, enough technical skills to actually put the video together, and I wouldn’t be any where near confident enough to talk to a camera, knowing people would actually see it. That’s kind of how I came about blogging. It seemed like the option I’d enjoy more, and actually be able to do.
I have actually had people say that I’d be a good booktuber, but I have no idea why they thought that haha! I’ll stick to blogging.
~~~

Do you post a review for every book you read? If you don’t and you’re selective about which book reviews you post, how do you decide?

– Jorlene @ Page Chronicles

Every single book. Since I started blogging I think there’s only been one book I haven’t reviewed, that being a Penguin Little Black Classics book I read in March that was 50 pages. Purely because I hardly had anything to say about those 50 pages. But other than that, every single book is reviewed.

~~~
What is your blogging routine? E.g. How far in advance do you start writing/drafting blog posts, how many weeks do you plan for, etc.
– Jorlene @ Page Chronicles
I have a sort of schedule, so I have a brief outline of what I need to do that week. On Wednesdays I upload discussion posts and on Fridays I upload book reviews, with Saturdays and Sundays being anything random. I also do extra posts if I have an extra book review, or a post like this. So I’m quite lenient with how I run this blog. I just post a lot.
I tend to actually write blog posts on the morning of the day it goes up. If I’m busy on the day a post is being uploaded, I’ll schedule it ahead of time. I usually don’t think more than a week ahead.
Share your best experience of April Fools
Nikita @ Bibliophile
I haven’t really been tricked on April Fools, as far as I remember. The only thing that comes to mind was one time in Primary school, when I was about 9 I think, in the playground this boy hid behind a wall and as I walked past, sort of screamed from behind me to make me jump. Well, let’s just say when something scares me, I react…and ended up punching this boy with all the force my terrified self could muster. So that backfired xD
He found it funny, but didn’t try it again. Must’ve hurt. All I have to say is KARMA.
~~~

One song that is constantly on your mind right now?

Aldii @ Perfection in Books

And here you have given me the most perfect opportunity to show you the most perfect song/medley/acapella amazingness in existance. I’ve discovered this at the end of December I think and I’m still completely obsessed. It’s beautiful. The main singers are incredible, the backing singers don’t even seem real it’s that stunning. It’s honestly one of those songs that sound so beautiful I tear up.

If you’re a Disney fan, be prepared for this.

IF YOU LISTENED TO IT PLEASE TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS IF YOU LOVED IT BECAUSE I NEED TO KNOW I SHARED THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF MUSIC WITH THE WORLD.

~~~
How much time do you spend on blogging (per day or per week)?
Inge @ The Belgian Reviewer
Ermm….a lot? Okayy let me work it out hang on…
So say I spend an hour writing each post, that’s 4 hours. Then I spend probably the same amount of time reading other people’s posts after I’ve done mine, so that 8 hours. Add another hour or so for extra blog posts, or posts that take longer than an hour to write…then approximately 9 hours. Probably more though. Wow that’s a lot.
~~~

How did you choose your blog title and how long did it take to decide on that?

– Inge @ The Belgian Reviewer

This was the second hardest thing about starting up a blog, the first being finding a design I wouldn’t get bored of.

So when creating my blog name I basically wrote down a lot of words relating to books and reading. I then looked at examples, and decided I liked the whole “wonderland” theme people go with. So I looked up synonyms for “wonder” (as in walking around, or “wander”, not thinking) and wrote down a bunch of those words that were interesting. That’s where I got “frolic” from. I mashed around the words for a while, kept asking my dad what he thought of different titles, and eventually came up with “A frolic through fiction” because it sounded quite whimsical, and like I’m having a jolly good time here. I think it took me about 2/3 hours to decide.

~~~
Any tips on how to get more followers?
– Inge @ The Belgian Reviewer
I’d say…follow other people’s blogs and they’ll be more inclined to check yours out. Also comment on other people’s blogs. That really helps. Plus it probably makes the blogger behind the screen smile so why not do that anyway? 🙂
~~~

What is your favourite bookish merchandise that you own?

Loreva @ La Book Dreamer

I think most of my bookish merchandise is Harry Potter related. But I’d say my favourite would definitely be this Gryffindor moleskin notebook (I’m both Slytherin & Gryffindor, long story) I use as my reading journal, or this wooden sign saying “Ssshhh! Reading in Progress!” Both of which are in this photo!

~~~
What’s your favorite part about blogging?
Shikha @ Fiction and Tea
Since I answered a similar question earlier, this time I’ll say seeing people appreciate my reviews, since that’s the purpose of this blog in the first place.
~~~

Do you have any bookish pet peeves?

– Shikha @ Fiction and Tea

Cover changes halfway through series. I mean, how inconvenient can you be? Although the one that bugs me most is when a synopsis pretty much spoils the book for you because it tells too much of the story. UGH.

~~~
If you were a fictional character for a day, who would you be?
Blanche @ Wildest Reads
Hermione Granger. I just want to be a witch, alright? Though I feel like this would be a completely different level of torture, being a witch for the day and seeing all the magical things and then having to go back to this mundane life.
~~~

Who are your fave youtubers?

– Blanche @ Wildest Reads

Booktubers – Sasha Alberg ( Abookutopia) and Regan (PeruseProject)

Youtubers in general – Gabby (VelvetGh0st), Sophie Foster and Eve Bennett

~~~
If you could meet any fictional character who would you meet?
– Blanche @ Wildest Reads
Any of my faves: Aelin Galathynius/ Hermione Granger/ Luna Lovegood/ ProbablyAnInfiniteAmountOfOthersThatICan’tRememberRightNow.
So there we have it!
One very long looking Q&A!
High five for making it all the way down here though. You deserve a round of applause for that attention span, especially when I’ve basically been talking about myself most of this post (how very narcissistic of me).
Seriously. That’s probably the longest blog post on this entire blog *covers face in bewilderment*
I hope you all found it interesting, and I answered your questions well enough!
Feel free to continue asking questions in the comments if you have any that have randomly popped into your head during all this.
Also, I’d love to know what you thought of some of my answers! Do we have anything in common? I’m intrigued 😀
Until next time…
    And yes, I would love to visit Hogwarts for real (the closest I got is the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London). I don’t think I’ve gotten over not receiving my letter when I was 11!
        Ohh the Christmas theme must be amazing. I’ve been twice so far, once before and once after they introduced Platform 9 3/4 and the Hogwarts Express. I kind of wanna go back again even though I was literally there less than a month ago!
