April Book Haul – So Much For That Book Buying Ban!

April haul

At the start of the month I said to myself “I’m on a book buying ban for April because I’ve gotten so many books since December.”

As time went on, I realized one of my most anticipated releases came out at the end of the month. So this went from no books to “I’ll make an exception for THAT ONE BOOK.”

And then April actually started and I ended up getting 6 books. And a half. Kind of (you’ll see what I mean).

So here’s my failed book buying ban – otherwise known as a haul!

overview

Stars Above

by Marissa Meyer

 Stars Above

My boyfriend actually bought me this one, because he’s nice like that. So for a while I didn’t break the ban. I only lasted about 2 weeks though so never mind.

But I finally have the entire Lunar Chronicles collection! I’ve yet to read this one. I’m waiting until it’s been long enough, and I feel like I need to revisit these beloved characters ❤

Saga Volume 2

Saga vol 2

Well I’ve been meaning to continue this graphic novel series for ages now. So at least I can actually do that at some point.

Again, I’ve not read this one because I’m saving it. At some point, probably during the summer, I’ll be reading Dragonfly In Amber by Diana Gabaldon, and that book is HUGE. So I plan on reading this one in between to break it up a bit.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, John Tiffany

Cursed child

This is the “half/kind of” book I mentioned at the beginning. I didn’t know whether to include this one yet because obviously, I don’t actually own it yet. But I preordered it this month at my favourite bookshop, and I’m excited, so I wanted to share 😀

No doubt you’ll be seeing this one again in a book haul this summer!

I’ll Give You The Sun

by Jandy Nelson

I'll Give You The Sun

This book I believe might be the book of the month for one of the bookclubs I’m part of, and I believe I’m a host for May so I kind of needed to get the book.

Even if I’m wrong and this isn’t the book of the month, I’ve had my eye on this for a while and managed to get it for just under half price, so I won’t complain!

The Raven King

by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven King

Of course this one was going to be here. This is the book I was anticipating this month, and was willing to make an exception in my ban for. So of course, here it is.

Also, this was on the “buy one get one half price” offer Waterstones tends to have on a lot of their popular books, so that resulted in the next books too.

I’ve just started Blue Lily, Lily Blue, and will be making my (probably slow) way through it over the next week, in between redecorating and working. But eventually, I’ll get to this. #SaveGansey ❤

PLUS IT’S STUNNING JUST LOOK AT IT.

*ahem*

Uprooted

by Naomi Novik

Uprooted

I’ve been waiting for this book to come out in paperback here in the UK for what feels like ages.

And I nearly walked straight past it, because I didn’t recognize the cover! Which, by the way, is stunning. All the bottom silhouette you can see has gold detailing mixed in too, so every time you move it, it just shines. Damn my camera for not picking it up in this photo!

This book was on the “buy one get one half price” offer too, so obviously I grabbed it.

~~~~~~~~~~
The Lie Tree
by Frances Hardinge
The Lie Tree
It was then that I realized that this book was also on the offer. And that made my decision of which two books to get a bit more difficult. Of course I was getting The Raven King, but which book to get with it?
I had my heart set on Uprooted, but so many people have told me to read this book now, I felt bad for leaving it behind.
So here it is. I just got them all.
What? I can’t just leave it on the shelf lonely….
~~~~~~~~~~

So there we have my April Book Haul!

How many books did you get this month?

How many of these books have you read? Which should I read first?

Any here that you plan on buying yourself?

Let me know in the comments!

Until next time…

  1. I love your photos!! Who doesn’t break their book buying ban? Don’t worry you aren’t the only one! I have so many of these on my TBR! I’ve heard so many good things about The Raven Boys and I definitely have to check it out soon! I also need to finish off the Lunar Chronicles!

  2. I laughed so hard reading this, it sounds just like me! Every time I go on a book buying ban, I get more than I would normally. I’ve given up. You got some great ones, though! Uprooted is amazing, and I just got The Lie Tree as well. Can’t wait to read it!

    1. YAY I’m glad you enjoyed reading my haul haha! I think I might just give up on book buying bans too, I’ve never had one work before. Hope you enjoy the Lie Tree when you read it, I can’t wait to read it either 😀

  3. I got an ARC of The Lie Tree from NetGalley but haven’t read it yet although I think I’m going to try to get to it in the next couple of weeks because people seem to really be enjoying it. I haven’t read Uprooted, but that’s another one that I’ve heard a lot of good things about and I love that cover!!

  4. Ooh, you’re going to enjoy Saga #2! It’s definitely just as good as the first volume, if not better. And I’m currently reading The Lie Tree. I’m about a third of the way in and while the writing is great, I’m so far not entirely pulled-in… we shall see how it shapes up! What a great haul — I feel like everyone’s been getting The Raven King these days. I still have yet to read books 2 and 3!

    1. I’ll looked forward to reading Saga Vol 2 ! Hopefully you start enjoying The Lie Tree a bit more soon! It’d be a shame not to like it when it has so many fans! And yep, everyone’s talking about The Raven King. It has a huge fan base so it can’t be helped really! I’ll just have to join in haha 😀

  5. Even though you broke your book buying ban, at least it was only six books! Just think of it as one step closer to your own personal library 😀
    I’ve been meaning to start Saga, but I just don’t want to get disappointed by being seriously confused by the plot. I might just get it just to see.
    I’ve just started seeing The Lie Tree making it’s way around the blogs. It looks interesting, but definitely out of my comfort sphere.
    I’ll Give You The Sun is right at the top of my need-to-buy-NOW- list. I keep on seeing such great things about it!

    1. Or six steps closer haha! I didn’t find the plot confusing for Saga Volume 1, so I’d say give it a go 🙂 The Lie Tree doesn’t sound like smething I’d usually read either, but that many people have told me to read it so I’ll give it a try!
