TBR Unhaul -Brutally Kicking Books Off My Goodreads To Read List

tbr unhaul

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I’m a person that loves organizing my things.

Well, that’s probably not the one thing you should know, but it’s a thing.

Anyway, because of this, every so often I feel the need to go through my Goodreads account and sort everything out – make sure all my books have ratings (because sometimes I forget to do the starts when I add my review), adjust my favourite shelf, all that kind of stuff.

And one of the things I like to do is go through my “to-read” list and delete any that…well…that don’t belong there any more.

So here are the books that I deleted from my Goodreads TBR!

So I’ll be splitting these books into sections:

The books unhauled because I’ve lost interest

The books unhauled because I don’t want to continue the series

The books unhauled that might actually end up back on the TBR at some point

And to start off…

The books I’ve lost interest in

This is easily the largest section.

Most of the books here are simple on the list because I was interested in them once upon a time, but now…not so much. They’ve been hanging around too long, and I just don’t think I’ll ever actually go out and buy them. Even if I see them in bookstores, there’s always another book that I’m more interested in.

I know the Rainbow Rowell books (attatchments and Carry On) are popular, but I think my reading taste has strayed away from Rainbow Rowell’s sort of contemporary now. Especially now that I’ve gotten into contemporary much more, I’m even pickier than before.

As for the SciFi…I hardly ever actually read SciFi, so it has to be something really REALLY intriguing to pull me into that genre. Those books have been sat around too long.

As for this bottom bunch, I feel like I added most of them because of the “I saw them on a giveaway and they sounded interesting” situation. And that was so long ago, I’ve lost interest (as you probably guessed, since that’s why we’re here).

Books from series I won’t be continuing

And to counteract the last section, this is the smallest of the three.

It’s not very often that I don’t continue a series.

I read The Paper Magician last month, and wasn’t all that impressed with it. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t hold my interest that well. So I took The Glass Magician and The Master Magician off my to read shelf.

As for The Last Star, this is a bit of a weird one. The first book – The 5th Wave – was one of my favourite books when I read it. Then the second book came along and I was really quite disappointed by it. I enjoyed it, but it was nowhere near as good. And now I feel like it’s been too long since I read them both to remember what I enjoyed about the first book. So I honestly don’t think I’ll end up picking this up. I might be wrong. Maybe if the film adaptations continue, I’ll end up wanting to read the last book before the last film is released? I don’t know. But for now…nah.

Books that may very well end up back on the list

I was actually in such a dilemma when considering these books.

Because I feel like I’ll really enjoy all of them…but they’ve been on my list that long, I’m wondering WHY? Will I ever get round to them?

I’m a HUGE fantasy lover, it’s my favourite genre. Which is why all of these books might end up back on my TBR at some point.

You’ll have to help me decide. If any of these are really good and you would recommend, let me know and I’ll probably re-add them!

Share your thoughts!

Are there any books here that you’re surprised about me unhauling?

Are there any books here I should reconsider? Especially in the last section!?

Have you removed any books from your TBR lately? Which ones? Why?

Or is your TBR mounting dangerously high, even on the internet? (Don’t worry, mine still is)

Let me know in the comments!

Until next time…

    1. Thanks!
Sorry bout the Rainbow Rowell books! I know so so many people love them but I’ve been meaning to read them for ages and I’m wondering if I ever will, you know?
And go for it! It’s a great feeling after 😀

  1. I should really unahul some books as well, but because my Goodreads has been literally abandoned the months it’s hard to do so!
And NOOOO NOT CARRY ON! You can unhaul it of course, but it was such a quick, funny read I would hope you would put it back on your TBR.
I admire you actually organising your TBR. I think many bookwrom TBRs are a really messy because we want to read all the books!

    1. Carry On might end up back on at some point, especially if I really fancy a Rainbow Rowell type book! Maybe in the summer? That seems like the most likely time I’d read Rainbow Rowell again 🙂
And my physical TBR is just a complete mess, so I still have that in common with every bookworm ever haha!

  2. I haven’t read any of these, but I really wanna read Our Endless Numbered Days and the Mistborn books. Also yay for organising!

  3. I have a huge TBR, with about 229 books! I’m interested in them all, too, so I can’t even unhaul any books. XD Some of these books are on my TBR. I’ve read and enjoyed the entire Across The Universe trilogy. I would recommend giving it a shot. 🙂

    1. I reckon mine would be just as huge if I added all the books in series etc, but I don’t, so it’s A LOT shorter than it should be haha!
And I might give it a shot at some point, if I feel like introducing myself SciFi again 🙂

  4. This is such a great way to decrease our TBR and only focus on reading/buying books that interest us! My tbr shelf on GR is such a mess that I so need to do this too haha.
I read The Kiss of Deception last year and really enjoyed it. I think you should give it a try. 🙂

    1. It really feels so good to sort it out! Maybe you could spend a while doing it 🙂 At least then it’ll be up-to-date! And I might give the Kiss Of Deception a go still, it does sound like something I’d enjoy. Maybe one day 🙂

  5. Nice post! I should probably take out some books out of my TBR too… Seeing this post made me realize how many books I’ve lost interest in these past couple years. Hopefully The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson will make it back on your TBR list. It doesn’t disappoint, especially if you like high fantasy 😉

    1. Thank you!
I think for a while…like since December until now really, I’ve taken a bit of a break from fantasy, and that’s why I took Final Empire off the list for now. I mean I read fantasy, I always will do because it’s my favourite genre, but I seemed to only go for the shorter reads. I can feel myself getting back into them fully now though (I’m reading a fantasy at the minute that’s over 600 pages long) so it could be back very soon 🙂

  6. You just HAVE to read ‘Poison Study!’ It’s just such an amazing fantasy book, and it’s not that long compared to others.

  7. I really should go through my Goodreads TBR and get rid of some of the ones that have been on there forever, but I just can’t bring myself to do it haha It would take forever, plus I don’t think there are many on there that I wouldn’t still be interested in reading 😛 But I do have waaay too many books on my TBR lol
