I think every bookworm has their auto-buy authors.
The authors where no matter what they publish, you WILL be buying it. The authors where you’re constantly waiting for any news of upcoming books. The authors where they could write out their shopping list, and you’d find it enthralling.
Granted, auto-buy authors is kind of a new concept to me. I knew about them, but didn’t think I had any of my own. Purely because I have this thing where it takes me forever to continue series, so most of the time I never have the entire collection of books.
But then I realized…there are a few.
Even though there’s only 5 here, I’ll split this into two sections:
– I own all their books so far & eagerly waiting for the next
Pretty self explanatory. Most of the time, these are ongoing series, or an upcoming release is not yet out.
– Permanent *grabby hands* at the books I intend on buying
I don’t yet own all the books these authors have published, but I fully intend on buying them to get the whole collection.
So who are my auto-buy authors? Let’s find out!
I own all their books so far and eagerly waiting for the next
Profile photos all linked to their twitter pages!
Sarah J Maas
Books published so far:
Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, The Assassin’s Blade, A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury
Sarah J Maas is one of the authors I own the most books for. I own all 7 books listed above, and will for sure be getting the next books in both series. I feel like I’m always waiting for more news, purely because every time I get my hands on one of her books, I devour it instantly and have to wait all over again.
With me being a huge fantasy lover, how could Sarah J Maas ever not be on my list? I fell in love with every single books she’s written so far, and I have full confidence that I will have the same reaction to the rest of them. I mean, my review for A Court of Mist and Fury was so hard to write because I couldn’t put my love for it into words!
Her next book release is in September for the Throne of Glass series, the next one being Empire of Storms, and let me tell you, I CANNOT WAIT!

Samantha Shannon
Books published so far:
The Bone Season, The Mime Order, On The Merits Of Unnaturalness
I love The Bone Season series. The fact that it will be seven books long gives me so much to look forward to! Plus, Samantha Shannon recently signed a new deal with Bloomsbury for ANOTHER fantasy book called The Priory Of The Orange Tree, so I have that to get my hands on too!
I adore complex stories. The sort of stories that have so much to them, I can sit back and really appreciate all the small links the author has managed to weave together. And that’s exactly how I define The Bone Season ❤
When it comes to the release of the third book The Song Rising, I’m honestly considering joining a library just so I can read it right away. It only comes out in hardback for the first few months and I like buying paperbacks wayyyy more…but I need to read it! And with my issue of not being able to read on screens…it might have to be the library for me!

Dawn Kurtagich
Books published so far:
The Dead House
With only one book published so far, it might be surprising to some that I have Dawn Kurtagich on my list. But when I read The Dead House about a year ago, it honestly blew me away so much, and instantly became a favourite. I’m still obsessed to this day.
But no worries! She has another book coming out soon! And this is why she’s on the list. When I heard the news of The Creeper Man being released, I instantly added it to my TBR, without even knowing what it was about (I know now, don’t worry). And isn’t that the definition of an auto-buy author? To buy their books automatically, without any hesitation?
I’ll be getting my copy of The Creeper Man as soon as I possibly can after it’s release date in July. I can’t wait!

Permanent *grabby hands* at the books I intend on buying
Victoria Schwab
Books published so far:
A Darker Shade Of Magic, A Gathering Of Shadows, Vicious, The Archived, The Unbound, The Near Witch, and a few children’s novels that I actually didn’t know about (I feel awful for not knowing!)
I think I discovered Victoria Schwab’s books at the start of last year, and now I want every single book by her. Or at least, the Young Adult and New Adult/Adult ones, since I had no idea the children’s books existed until Goodreads told me three seconds ago.
I already own ADSOM, AGOS and Vicious. I’m planning on ordering The Archived and The Unbound hopefully soon. And yes I mean order because for some reason my bookstore doesn’t stock the paperbacks themselves so I have to resort to Amazon.
And I’m hopefully getting an ARC of her upcoming release This Savage Song *fingers crossed*! If I do get it, t will be my first ARC, and since it’s one of my most anticipated releases, I couldn’t be happier!

Holly Bourne
Books published so far:
Am I Normal Yet? , How Hard Can Love Be? , The Manifesto On How To Be Interesting, Soulmates
I discovered Holly Bourne at the start of this year by reading Am I Normal Yet? and I remember immediately thinking “I want every single book written by Holly Bourne”. So I’m on a mission to do just that.
Also, Holly Bourne came into my life at just the right time, because I used to hate the idea of contemporary books. This year I wanted to try a few to expand my reading genres a bit more, and when I picked up Am I Normal Yet? I was hooked…and all my past hatred for the genre very quickly dissolved.
The only one I don’t own is Soulmates, and I very nearly bought it the other day but decided I’d wait until I actually read some of the books I already own. I still need to read Manifesto, but I’ve been saving it for the Summer. I think I’ll end up reading it soon.
I’m eagerly waiting for What’s A Girl Gotta Do? – the 3rd book in the Normal series – to be released August 1st, because I already know I’ll adore it ❤

Do we have any in common?
Are there any authors here you’ve not yet tried, but plan to? (I’d highly recommend them all, of course)

Thank you! 😀 I wanted to put JK Rowling on mine because I adore the Harry Potter series, but then I realized that I only have one of her other books!

Great post! From this list only SJM is an auto-buy author for me, but all the others have books on my TBR. I think my top four other auto-buys would be Cassandra Clare, Rick Riordan, Marissa Meyer, and Jennifer L. Armentrout. 😀

Rick Riordan and Cassandra Clare are two of my auto-buys as well – ESPECIALLY Cassandra Clare 😀

I was going to put Rick Riordan on my list too but I don’t think I’ll ever catch up on all his books to be honest with how many he writes haha! And I think Cassandra Clare would be one many people’s 🙂

The great thing about Rick Riordan is that all his books happen in the same world, so you don’t necessarily have to read them in order. You could read The Heroes Of Olympus after reading Magnus Chase for example 🙂

True. I just love mythology in any form so with him writing about Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Norse (I think)…I want them all haha! I’ll get round to them all eventually 😀

I can’t wait for the second Magnus Chase book to come out in Sept/Oct. It’s going to be epic!!!

Thanks! I thought about putting both Rick Riordan and Marissa Meyer on mine. I think Rick Riordan will always have too many books to catch up with though, even though I DO want them all. There’s just…so many haha!

Rick does have a lot of books, and they’re all awesome! You should try to catch up. 😀

I completely agree with you about Sarah J. Maas, V.E. Schwab and Samantha Shannon, anything any of them writes will immediately go to the top of my to-read and the top of my to-buy list. They are three of my favourite authors! I’ve already pre-ordered Empire of Shadows and The Song Rising! 😀
