We all know the process.
Those books you can feel yourself falling in love with, page by page.
Well, I’ve decided to write my own process down. Some of you might be able to relate, some of you might have different stages. But this is what goes through my mind when the inevitable happens, and I gradually start to become obsessed with the next book on my shelf.
So here are the stages of loving book!
The “mildly impressed and can’t quite believe it” stage
Huh. This seems good already.
*Looks at page number*
Wait. I’m only on page 30 how? How can I start loving a book so early?
No. I can’t start forming my judgement yet. I’ll wait until 100 pages, then it’ll be a more realistic judgement.
The “luring you in page by page” stage
Picking up pace…
This is actually getting really good.
Like, REALLY good.
Have I gotten to the 100 pages yet?
I HAVE! I can officially say that I’m really enjoying this *looks around smugly*
The “sudden plummet” stage
*usually between the 150-200 page mark*
Wait.
What?
WAIT. DON’T DO THIS TO ME. I MUST READ ON.
WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?
The “finally cares to admit it” stage
UGH this books is so good.
Why didn’t I read this earlier?
I can’t believe how good this is!
*starts the infinite amount of tweets about book*
The ” ‘like’ turns to ‘obsessed'” stage – otherwise known as the “shouting” stage
SCRATCH THAT this book is AMAZING
EVERYONE MUST READ THIS BOOK
*slams book down in front of unsuspecting person*
READ IT.
NOW.
MY HEAD AND HEART ARE FULL OF THIS BOOK.
I FEEL LIKE SCREAMING
*screams*
The “trying to form thoughts into words and becomes slightly intolerable” stage
*talks about it non stop to everyone that will listen*
*talks about it non stop to everyone that won’t listen*
Me: “Hey so I’m really enjoying this book…”
Person: “Yeah? What’s it about?”
Me: “WELL IT’S ABOUT THIS GIRL RIGHT AND OHMYGODIT’SAMAZINGHOWDOIEVENBEGINTOEXPLAIN – “
Person: “Oh god….”
*Writes down illegible notes for the review*
*looks in illegible scribbles*
PERFECT. Exactly what I’m thinking.
The “ending” stage
HOW HOW HOW
OK. Calm down.
OK DON’T CALM DOWN WHAT HOW AM I AT THE END ALREADY?!?
*flips furiously through last pages to see if I missed something*
The “hoping there’s more/turns stalker” stage
*Flips through acknowledgments hoping to find more*
AAAGHGHHGH I NEED MORE RIGHT NOWWWWWW
*Stalks the book on social media*
*Writes review/fangirling moments (which takes much longer than it should) and uploads*
*gets unnecessarily happy when someone comments because they’ve read it too*
So there we have the stages of loving a book!
Who said reading is relaxing?
It’s more like a full body workout with how many times I furiously change reading position to be comfortable for longer while internally screaming.
~~~
So what did you think?
Could you relate?
Would you add any more stages to the list? What would they be called and what’s the process?
Maybe you’re going through this process now? Which stage would you say you’re on?
Which book did you most recently go through this with? (Mine was A Court of Mist and Fury!)
Let me know in the comments!
Great post, and so true! All of my reads this month have done this to me so far except one. I’m currently in the “luring you in page by page” stage with The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan. 😀
Thank you! And that’s great to have read so many great books recently 😀 I hope the rest of The Hidden Oracle continues to follow these stages then (which I’m sure they will because Rick Riordan.)
