June Wrap Up

Did June even happen?

Apparently so.

It still hasn’t sunk in that here in England, it’s actually Summer now – not that the weather has done anything to help remind me. So all those books I’ve held off “until Summer when I have more time”…well, now’s the time.

Anyway, it’s the start of July, meaning a June Wrap-Up is needed. So here we are!

As always, this will be a long post so get comfy and enjoy!

Books Read This Month

June was a pretty good reading months for me, since I read a total of 9 books! Might not seem like much to some people, but I usually only read about 4 books a months so to have more than doubled that…well, I’m feeling quite accomplished, to say the least.

Gifted

Rated 4/5 stars – [Review]

While the synopsis of this book does sound quite stereotypical for a fantasy book, it did sound like something I’d enjoy. So when offered a copy to review, I happily agreed. And I’m glad I did, because it was a very enjoyable, quick read, and I loved the characters involved.

I loved the fact it was centered around a university too, because a lot of YA books seem to revolve around a school, so it was a nice change.

Anna and the French Kiss

Rated 5/5 stars – [Review] 

This was a REREAD for me. I needed to finally continue this series, but since I read the 1st book over two years ago, it only seemed right to reread it.

Plus it would have annoyed the hell out of me to only have reviews of the 2nd and 3rd book on my blog.

I loved this book even more than I did the first time round. It made me want to visit Paris. And I love how much Anna appreciates films. It’s not something you see that often.

The Alfaren Legacy

by Marc Jacobs

Rated 3/5 stars – [Review]

Another book that was sent to me for review. Another fantasy.

This book was an interesting read. It was non-stop action, none of the “boring” parts of the characters journey were written about. But I wasn’t too impressed with the writing. There seemed to be a lot of info-dumping and unnecessary names throw around. It was an OK read.

The Diary of a Young Girl

by Anne Frank

Rated 4.5/5 stars – [Review]

This one was a surprise for me. I don’t read nonfiction. I’ve never been able to finish a nonfiction book.

Until now.

I adore history, so this book really hit me hard. I feel like everyone needs to read this book at some point in their life.

Paper Boats

by Erndell Scott

Rated 4.5/5 stars – [Review]

After Anne Frank’s Diary, I was in the mood for historical fiction, so this book came to me at just the right time.

I adored this story. This is how historical fiction should be done. I was completely gripped in the story, and the writing itself was incredible. Though at time gruesome. But war was gruesome, wasn’t it? So it fits.

Lola and the Boy Next Door

by Stephanie Perkins

Rated 3.5/5 stars – [Review]

This one disappointed me a little. With how much I loved the first, I thought this one would follow. But nope.

I did enjoy it. Just nowhere near as much. I think most people feel this way about this series though. It’s a bit odd. I did enjoy the creative side of the story though, and how different it was to normal stories in that way.

Isla and the Happily Ever After

by Stephanie Perkins

Here we have a new favourite!

While the 2nd book in this series disappointed me, the 3rd and last one really didn’t. It was cute, not cringey, and a very quick read (I read it in a day). I adored Isla, and I’m so glad this series ended on a good note for me. And I’m glad I’ve FINALLY finished this series!

I’ll Give You The Sun  

by Jandy Nelson

Rated 3/5 stars – [Review]

Probably the most controversial review of the month. So many people adore this book, but I just didn’t get it. I wanted to love it as much as everyone else, but it all just seemed a bit of a let down when compared to the hype.

I did enjoy it though. It was good, just not phenomenally amazing.

The Creeper Man

by Dawn Kurtagich

Rated 5/5 stars – [Review]

Another new favourite!

I’m a massive fan of Dawn Kurtagich’s other book The Dead House, so when she offered to send me an ARC of The Creeper Man, I fangirled so hard. And it didn’t let me down! I loved everything about this book, especially how it had a story behind the horror. And the formatting! AGHHH!

I’m Currently Reading…

I’ve been reading Wuthering Heights for a couple of weeks now, sort of as a “Second book”. I wanted to get into classics more, but I’m always discouraged by how much longer it takes me to read them compared to my usual books. So I’ve decided that I’ll have one main book, but also have a classic on the side to read every now and again, like at night I’ll read this book for an hour instead of the other.

I’m about 100 pages in and really enjoying it so far! I still find it quite funny how dramatic Victorian Literature is though 😆 Hopefully it won’t take me much longer to finish, since I took a pretty long break from it a few days ago!

And for my main book? Never Fade!

I was going to start my ARC of Replica, but decided I needed to read this one first because lately, I’ve been going off a lot of the series I read a while ago, so I felt like if I didn’t read Never Fade soon, I wouldn’t finish The Darkest Minds trilogy at all.

Hopefully this will give me the motivation to finish the series!

Life In General

---

My life in general? Well, hardly anything interesting happened.

The summer holidays began. I had to do a few days of work experience for my creative media and journalism course. And…that’s about it.

I DID go to see Me Before You at the cinema. Ohhhh it broke me. I cried for about a hour straight. Just like with the book! I was VERY impressed. Plus, I still can’t get over how incredible Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin’s acting skills are!

Other than that, there’s only one other exciting thing really…

I’m really close to 400 followers here on my blog!!!

I can’t quite believe it. 

I did set a “goal” to reach 500 followers before the end of the year, just as something fun and blog related to throw into my new year’s resolutions in January. And while I didn’t think it would happen…I have hope, now that I’m closer.

Obviously, it’s not something I can control. And obviously, the numbers don’t matter to me. But I do have to admit how encouraging it is to see people enjoying my blog 😀

I still don’t think I’ll get to 500 before 2017, but I don’t think I’ll be as far away as originally expected. And that’s amazing!
