AT LAST! I READ THIS BOOK!
I got this book at the end of October and have been saving it specifically for the run up to Christmas. I was originally planning to leave it right until the last week of the countdown (that being this week), but after having some…let’s say not so good reads lately, I needed something that was guaranteed to be a good ‘n.
This is going to be a short review, specifically for the illustrated edition. Do we even need review of the Harry Potter series anymore?
Let’s talk about Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Illustrated Edition!
Title: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Illustrated Edition
Author: J.K.Rowling, Illustrated by Jim Kay
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Series Status: The 2nd book in the Harry Potter series
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Number of Pages: 259
(Found on Goodreads)
Prepare to be spellbound by Jim Kay’s dazzling full-colour illustrations in this stunning new edition of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Breathtaking scenes, dark themes and unforgettable characters – including Dobby and Gilderoy Lockhart – await inside this fully illustrated edition. With paint, pencil and pixels, award-winning illustrator Jim Kay conjures the wizarding world as we have never seen it before. Fizzing with magic and brimming with humour, this inspired reimagining will captivate fans and new readers alike, as Harry and his friends, now in their second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, seek out a legendary chamber and the deadly secret that lies at its heart …
Disclaimer: This is a review specifically for the illustrated edition.
Saying that, I do have to mention how much of a nostalgia trip this is. I read this bundled up in blankets next to my christmas tree, flipping through the pages with that festive feeling in the air. And it was one of the best decisions I made this December.
Though this isn’t my favourite from the series, it’s definitely an entertaining one. You start seeing things between Harry and Voldemort get more complicated, and the story starts to get darker and more twisted with each page turn. But still, it manages to keep that magical, almost lighthearted feeling you get with the first book.
And then we get to the illustrations.
To put it simply, they are absolutely stunning.
And that really is putting it simply, because words can’t actually comprehend how beautiful the illustrations are. I could spend hours with my nose an inch away from the pages, finding every small detail with delight in my eyes and magic in my heart.
Although… I wouldn’t actually want my nose an inch away from the page when spiders made their appearance. I’d actually flinch away from holding the page when I first saw them. Yes, I am a wuss.
These illustrated editions are such gorgeous things to collect. To reread at Christmas. Or maybe a wonderful way to introduce someone to the series. I myself can’t wait to have the entire series in the illustrated editions.
Though I wonder how they’re going to do the larger books? Are they just going to be absolutely huge and ridiculously heavy, or will they be split in two? Hmm…
Anyway, I’m pretty sure anyone who buys these illustrated won’t be disappointed. I sure know I’m not.

I really want these illustrated HP books. My favorite HP book has always been The Prisoner Of Azkaban. I’m going to re-read book 5-7 in 2017, we will see if number 3 is still my favorite after the re-read.

They really are! I’d definitely recommend getting them online, like from Amazon or something. They’re so expensive in bookstores but half the price online!

Yeah they are expensive, even online

I adore the illustrations in these books (definitely bringing them to college next year!) and love to looking at them. Although I agree with you about the spiders 😂 I can’t even imagine how heavy the illustrated version for Order of the Phoenix would be!

I actually can’t wait just to see how big the illustrated Order of the Phoenix will be ahaha 😆 Though I have a feeling we’ll have to wait longer than a year for it to be released, since it’s so long!

OH MAN! I cannot wait to read all these. They look gorgeous. I think the book I am most excited to see in an illustrated version is Goblet of Fire. I love the questing element and there are so many great magical creatures. My favorite book, however, is Half Blood Prince. I love learning more about Snape and watching he relationships become more extreme- it’s a beautiful and horribly sad book.

Me too! It’ll be so exciting seeing each one illustrated over the years! I can’t wait for Goblet of Fire either – although it’s probably my least favourite of the series, I DO think it’ll be the most interesting to see illustrated, especially with things like the Pollyjuice potion and dragons/merpeople etc 😀 I’m excited to see Prisoner of Azkaban next though, purely for the dementors and patronus’ !

I look forward to seeing another interpretation of Sirius Black. While Gary Oldman is an amazing actor, his interpretation of the newly-released from Azkaban Sirius does not even come close to what I imagined in my head. I look forward to other interpretations.

Is the whole book in there? Or is it pared down so that they can pop the illustrations in?

I know right? That’s why I’m wondering about the bigger books – the illustrated editions will be huge! I have a feeling they’ll split the bigger books in half but I don’t know
