First of all, I’m sorry for the amount of reviews this blog has become laden in. Over November and December, I read so many more books than I usually do, and I’ve fallen behind. In trying to schedule one review per week, I had reviews for books I read early November not going up until late December, which really bothered me. So at the moment, I’ve set a few reviews to go up each week, just to try and get them all caught up again. I’m gradually catching up, so hopefully this won’t be for much longer!
But for today, I have something different to break up all the mundane reviews.
Today, I’m going to talk about the top 10 books I want to read in 2017! Now, this isn’t necessarily books that are released in 2017. I’ve done such a bad job at keeping up with anticipated releases, that really I’ve just given up and have resolved to just grab the books as I see them. Great plan. But I also have a whole load of books on my shelves at the moment, practically leaping at me and burying me under commands of “READ ME!”
And so they must be listened to.
Here are the top 10 books I want to read this year!
This is my most recent addition to my shelves. After seeing Karina read it in December and ever since rave about it on twitter and instagram, I needed to see what all the fuss was about. It doesn’t sound like anything I’ve read before, and after tweeting a photo on twitter which gained many responses similar to “YOU’LL LOVE IT THROUGH YOUR TEARS”…well, that sounds great to me. Who doesn’t love soul crushing books, am I right?
So I picked this one up as part of my “read more nonfiction” resolution, and while I don’t yet have a huge interest in nonfiction books, this one has been on my radar for quite a while. My fascination for history is pulling me to this one, even though I have a very strong feeling my heart will be left in a puddle and I’ll have to scoop it all back up again in an attempt to put it back, when really it’ll not quite look the same after and will have a book shaped hole left somewhere.
Yeah.
I was intending to buy and read this when it came out, but as explained in my December Book Haul video, that didn’t exactly go as planned. With Victoria Schwab being one of my favourite authors, it’s one of my priorities to finally read this book in 2017.
Oh look, another Victoria Schwab book. Can you tell I’m a fan? I’ve been following this series for two or three years now, and with this final book being released just before my birthday, I NEED IT. I can’t wait to see how this trilogy comes to an end. I just know I’m going to love it.
Coming out in April, this one hit my radar when I was looking for more diverse reads. The more I hear people mention it, the more I want it in my hands already. But we have to wait until APRIL. UGH. Yes I am an impatient swine who wants everything right now. I’m actually hoping to get my hands on an ARC of this since I’m on the blogger database for the publisher, but I’ve already been told there’s a limited number so I don’t think it’ll be likely. But *fingers crossed*
Though I’m only listing the things for A Court of Wings and Ruin here, I’m sort of cheating a li’l bit and including the 6th Throne of Glass book too. There just isn’t a cover for it yet – not even one like the ACOWAR one above, which isn’t even a cover. But Sarah J Maas is one of my all time favourite authors, despite the problems with her books. I can’t help but love them. I started reading them years ago so I’m stuck with them now. I’ll be preordering and then reading both A Court of Wings and Ruin and the 6th Throne of Glass book as soon as they’re in my hands.
I’ve been wanting to read this for months, and after having a chat on twitter to Louise I felt so bad for not having read her book yet.
I tend to do that. If an author is nice to me, it makes me want to go out, buy and read their books. All they have to do is acknowledge I exist and I’ll go running. I’m easily influenced towards book choices like that.
Being about a girl with agoraphobia, I know this is one I’ll relate to A LOT. And I’m actually looking forward to seeing how well I can relate to it, because I don’t think I’ve read any stories of anxiety that are specifically agoraphobia based, so I want to see if I can find myself in this book.
I don’t even know much about this one. But it’s been recommended to me so many times, I figured I’d make it a priority this year before people start coming at me with pitchfork threatening to skewer me if I don’t pick the damn thing up.
Totally a possibility. We bookworms are prone to extreme methods of getting others to read. True story. WHY WON’T YOU BELIEVE ME?
I started reading Outlander at the start of 2016, and have very slowly trudged my way into the third book. These books are the mammoths of the book world. They’re very intimidating. But I’m hoping I won’t just leave the series for ages, especially with all the little details that I’d no doubt forget. So hopefully at some point this year I’ll slog my way through this third book.
I’ll be reading this so much later than everyone else. I’m a huge fan of Six of Crows, but here in the UK the paperbacks first come out in this really tall version, and I can’t be having that. Yes, I AM that fussy. So I’ll be waiting for the smaller, normal sized paperback to be released at some point during 2017. I’m hoping it won’t take too long. Because I REALLY WANT THIS BOOK. Come on publishers. Get your paperbacks right.

Obviously there’s many many more, but these I actually have specific reasons for adding to the list 🙂

I’m always wanting to start with Outlander but for some reason I haven’t done it, I think it’s a little bit intimidating, but maybe I do it this year 🙂 🙂 :). The Song of Achiles makes me feel very curious too!

There are some horrifying parts in Night, but it’s such an important story that everyone should read. I’m looking forward to hear what you think of it!

Horrifying parts are a given with a book like that. No matter how many books you read about it, you can never imagine how terrible that time was. Still, I’m looking forward to finding out more! Though it feels weird to say I’m “looking forward to it” when it’s such a horrid topic

I read Night in English class during my sophomore year of high school and really enjoyed it, though it’s incredibly heartbreaking, dark, and unsettling at times. It’s really eye-opening and powerful– absolutely worth the read. 🙂

It’s always a bit weird saying you enjoy a book that so obviously about a horrid topic, but I know I’ll enjoy it too! I’m hoping to get to it really soon, and I just know it’ll be one of those I thin about for years to come.

Simon is one of my favorite books every! I absolutely loved it 🙂 I can’t wait for the two SJMaas books coming out this year. It’s gonna be a good year for books.

So many great choices, Ashleigh! After reading Under Rose-Tainted Skies last month, it’s definitely become one of my favorite books. I read Night several years ago when I was in high school and really loved it. It’s definitely a tear-jerker though. The Hate U Give, A Conjuring of Light, This Savage Song, and Simon Vs. are all books I’m hoping to read soon, too, especially THUG which I’m super excited for. Luckily I only have to wait until the end of February for that one 😉

Did you see the cover release of ACOWAR??
Why did they make your guys’ cover so different? Teal, the hair is brown, the model is smaller, the name is moved! I like the US cover more and you know I usually LOVE the U.K. Covers!! I’m so confused by it. Which one do you like better? The dark green seems to match the series better to me.
And I just know now that there will be a purple one. And I bet the last one will be black or white. Wouldn’t that be gorgeous??

I did! I’ve no idea why the covers are so different, it’s shame 😦 I DO still like the UK one, but I love the US one. I have a love for small details though, which will be why I love the US one so much more.
And I don’t even know what will happen with the next books. Apparently they’re a series in the same world but from someone else’s point of view? So I’m wondering if they’ll even have the same covers, since these ones all have Feyre on? They’ll probably match in some way, but have their own style going on. Though I do think there’ll be a purple one! It’d go well 😀
