Whyyyyy. Why am I so fussy with books lately? I feel like all the books that would usually impress me have either been “meh”, or a DNF. Whyyyyyy?

This for me is actually the saddest case of all, so far.

Let’s dive right in!

I just…I’m so confused.

Why didn’t I like this book?

I loved the first one. Historical fiction is my jam, and when combined with shapeshifting? I’m on it.

So…why not this one?

I should’ve figured something was wrong just from the fact it’s been sitting on my shelves for months without even being considered. That was probably the first warning sign, really. All I can guess is that in the time it took me between reading the first book and picking up this one, I became no longer interested in the story.

Because nothing was wrong with it. It read like the first book did. I just…wasn’t bothered any more? And I feel bad for saying that because I do like Yael and her story – the first book was one of the most unique books I’d read in a long time. Y’know, a parallel universe where Hitler won the war, there’s a notorious motorcycle competition, and the main character is a shapeshifter cross assassin? How intriguing does that sound? And it did win me over. But I seem to have dropped my interest somewhere along the way.

Can someone find it for me please? Because I really wanted to like this book.

I pretty much knew where the story was going to end up. I didn’t care about either of the guys who accompanied Yael along the way (no, not a love triangle *sighs with relief*). Which isn’t exactly great when you have to read from their point of view too.

I just…I don’t know. I didn’t want to pick it up once I’d started it. I pushed until I was a good 245 pages through – even though I usually DNF around the 100 page mark – just to make sure. But I think it just wasn’t the right time for me to read it. I’ll be keeping the book, because I do think that maybe one day, I’ll revisit it. But for now, unfortunately, I just didn’t get along with this book. That’s not to say some of you guys won’t like it. I think I just left it too long between the 1st and 2nd books.
