May. The month where everyone in the UK melted during that one week of heat we had. The month where all of us still in education take part in a frantic work ethic, as years come to an end and stress levels are high. Some of us are free for the summer already (you lucky ducks). Some of us have that little bit longer to go. Either way, May is gradually introducing the summer, and readers around the world are *so* ready to have extra reading time.

Let’s see what May brought!

Now, technically my favourite of the month would be A Court of Wings and Ruin, considering that’s the book with the highest rating this month. HOWEVER. That would be very predictable of me. And I’m pretty sure everyone is getting a tad sick of hearing about it.

So instead, I’m naming SPQR my favourite of the month, just for the sheer accomplishment it gave me. This 600 page nonfiction book detailing the history of Ancient Rome took me a couple of weeks to read, since I was only reading a chapter or two a day, but I am so glad I read it. I want to broaden my knowledge in history, since I usually just read about WWII, and this definitely did that. I found it SO fascinating, and it actually held my interest through all 600 pages. And with the idea of “a 600 page nonfiction book about the history of Ancient Rome” being one of the most daunting sounding ideas I’ve had in a long time, I’m thrilled that I actually ended up enjoying it. Speaking of Ancient Rome, my favourite booktuber of the month has without a doubt been Jean @ BookishThoughts. I discovered her channel this month and she automatically became one of my favourite booktubers. I’ve been wanting to learn more about ancient civilisations lately, and Jean’s channel is perfect for that. She studies ancient history, and her book recommendations relating to ancient Rome and Greece just sound amazing. There are other videos too for those who aren’t particularly interested in that kind of thing, but I don’t know. I just fell in love with Jean’s channel immediately and I get SO excited when there’s a new upload from her!

Another favourite of mine would be writing. I didn’t know whether to class this as a random favourite or online, but I spent loads of time online finding photos for the aesthetics and published the writing on my blog, so here it is. Now, I’ve never been a fan of writing, really. I can never think of stories. But I’ve always loved writing what I call “scenes”, where something is happening, and I get to describe the people and scenario. Which probably makes very little sense. But this month I was so inspired to write one, and actually decided to publish it. You can read it here! 

But now I’m really inspired to write more little scenes like this, and I’m really excited about it! Maybe I’ll make it a little summer project, hmmmm…

I HAVE SO MANY RANDOM FAVOURITES THIS MONTH. I’ll try to get through them quickly.

I decided to upgrade my cleanser this month to the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. Before, I had been using the Garnier Micellar Water to take my makeup off, and then a Soap & Glory cleanser, but it took me ages – and a lot of eye rubbing – to get my mascara off. It started to really bother my eyes (and the Soap & Glory one couldn’t be used near eyes), so I decided to dish out a bit more money, and got this cleanser to replace both. And let me tell you, it’s SO SATISFYING to use. You just rub the cream all over your made-up face and gradually turn into a panda as you smear your makeup everywhere…and then wipe it all off to find yourself magically clean. It’s also reduced my spots, and is super gentle, which is probably down to the natural ingredients. I love it!

Maple Syrup Crunchy Nature Valley Bars

There’s not much to say about this one. I’ve always loved them, but I’ve not had them in a while and rediscovered them in May. They basically taste like flapjack but drier.

Regina Spektor

Again, I’ve loved this for ages. Regina Spektor has been one of my favourite singers for a long time, but for some reason I’d only heard a few of her songs. In May, I found the rest of them – a whole 7 albums worth. So guess which little bee has been listening to her favourite singer’s entire music career on repeat? This one.

My favourite song of all time is Genius Next Door, but my current faves are also Black and White and The Light.

I mean, I keep going to the nearby woodland and these wildflowers are just swarming the place. They’re so delicate and unassuming, but have pretty much taken over the place.
