The last couple of months or so have been odd for my reading routine. Usually, things run pretty smoothly. I read one or two books per week, either morning or evening – sometimes both, if things are especially slow. I trundle through each month at the same pace, very happily so.
But the exact opposite seems to have happened through August and September. And since my “update/random” blog posts have been more general life based lately, I figured it was time for a reading update. And the sporadic pacing only makes a fab story, I suppose *shrugs*
So August brought the dreaded book slump. I read two books in August, both of them right towards the end of the month when I happened to be ever-so-slowly dragging myself out of said slump. And so I didn’t really have much to talk about. My days were full with a lot of blank hours, and yet my main crux had suddenly abandoned me. How dare it.
And then September hit, and it could not be more different. I read 6 books in one week, which is unheard of before from the likes of me. Literally, I’m a slow reader. It takes me HOURS to get anywhere in a book. And yet somehow, these first two weeks of September have proven my super-speedy reading capabilities – which is handy to know they exist, considering I’ll be starting uni soon and will be forever in a reading frenzy (lord help me).
I’m actually SO glad the reading slump seems to have reversed itself into a reading frenzy for these weeks. It means I’ve sailed through a whole load of books on my TBR right before uni starts, so once the workload kicks in, I won’t feel as meh if (when) my own reading comes to a standstill. Added bonus: hello interesting reading wrap up video! You were missed last month x
Granted, I probably should have made the frenzy more productive by reading as many of the books on my uni reading list as I could. I mean, I’ve read a few, but there’s loads more to be had. But then again, I’ll only end up rereading them when the time comes anyway so that I can analyse them, so maybe not…
Anyway. That’s what stage I’m at. The reading pace has been sporadic as ever, and will likely be even more so now that assigned reading will begin in a week. But I’m so very glad the book slump has relinquished me from it’s grasp, I basically had to made an entire blog post on it. Wow.
I realise this is a pretty pointless post, but I just wanted to have a little bookish chat because I feel like I haven’t for a while! Let me know what you’re currently reading, or just any general bookish updates you feel like chatting about! Have you been in a slump lately? Have you received your reading list for whatever you’re studying this year? Does the list look fab or meh? Chat away!
Until next time…
Come and visit me!
Omg I’ve had the exact same experience in the last few months! Read nearly nothing mid year and in the last two weeks ive read 4! 🤔 (I usually aim for one a week as I also work full time 🙃)

Isn’t it funny how our brains can go from 0 to 100 so fast? 😆

Wow, six books in one week is incredible! Glad to hear you’re pretty much out of your reading slump, it’s so annoying when you want to read but just can’t find the motivation to do so. Great post 🙂

Thanks Kate! And honestly I can’t believe I managed it (though to be fair, I didn’t do anything else with my days ahaha) 😆

Glad to hear you are out of your slump. College was hard. All I read were engineering books. Good luck back at uni!

I’m so glad you were able to read so much! I was in a slight slump this week, from blogging and reading. I watched a lot of videos and procrastinated on my TBR. But I’m fine now and that is partly because I got away from my phone and because Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo got soo good!
I love your aesthetic so much! I’ll def follow you now and check your youtube channel too. Have a great day, I loved your post!

Sorry for the late reply! For some reason your comment ended up in the spam folder, ugh. But I’m glad to hear Wonder Woman managed to pull you out of your slump!

I had a massive reading slump in August too and a massively productive September. I think it’s the “start of new term” feeling that kicks us all back into action. Anyway, enjoy freshers, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time at uni! 😊
