Book Haul Highlights // Autumn Edition

Yes, Autumn has passed but I’m late and didn’t want to miss out this blog post, so here we are.

A few weeks ago I uploaded an Autumn Book Haul to my youtube channel, and while I didn’t want to repeat content on here, I still wanted to show you folks some of the books I’m excited about. So I thought I’d bring back the book haul highlights, where I show you a few of the books I’m most excited about from the haul!

If you’d like to watch the full video it will be at the end of this post, but if you want to hear about some of the books I’ve acquired lately and am most excited for, here we are!

The Priory of the Orange Tree

by Samantha Shannon

ARC of The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, Bloomsbury

If you know me at all then you knew this one would be on the list. An epic fantasy book about dragons by one of my favourite authors? OF COURSE I’M EXCITED. I almost cried when this chunk arrived in the mail for me as I wasn’t expecting it at all. I had requested an ARC from the publishers but hadn’t heard anything back, until this turned up randomly one day! Unfortunately I’ve not been able to dive into it yet because uni work would in no way allow for a book of this size to get involved, but I’m desperately hoping that I’ll be able to start and read it over my Christmas break!

What Would Boudicca Do?

by Elizabeth Foley and Beth Coates

What Would Boudicca Do? by Elizabeth Foley and Beth Coates

A feminist nonfiction compilation of stories about different women in history and how we can take inspiration from them…how would I not be excited about this? It’s also a beautifully illustrated book, and I’ve heard from reviews that although this sort of book has become a recent trend, it features plenty of women we might not have heard of before. I’ve been eyeing this book up for ages, and I’m glad to finally have a copy!

Athelstan

by Tom Holland

Athelstan by Tom Holland, in the Penguin Monarchs series

A few months ago I discovered the Penguin Monarchs series, a collection of tiny books going through the timeline of English monarchs. Me being a huge lover of history and wanting to teach myself more, I figured this would be a great way to get a better idea of England’s timeline, so I picked a few up. Before this haul I’d already bought and read both Victoria and Mary I, and promised myself I would only buy these books when I’d read all the ones I’ve got. Well, I did, and so this was my next pick up. This one is about the first King of England, someone I’ve never actually heard about before so I’m excited to read it! Also, how badass does King Athelstan sound?? I approve.

Vengeful

by V.E. Schwab

Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

Being a Schwab fan, I don’t think anyone will be surprised this one made the highlights list. This is the second book in Schwab’s Villains series, and I recently re-read Vicious – the first book – in preparation for this. Which only means I need to read THIS ONE before I forget what happens in the first. Again. I did plan to read this immediately but again, thank you uni for ruining that plan *sigh*. But oh well, now I have it waiting for me!

The Boneless Mercies

by April Genevieve Tucholke

The Boneless Mercies

This one I received from the publishers a little while ago for an Instagram tour, and I’m honestly a little bit gutted I haven’t gotten to it yet! This is a YA fantasy about a world where only women can hand out death. It’s said to be inspired by Beowulf (how true that will be, I don’t know as I’ve not read it), and honestly this just sounds like the sort of YA fantasy book that intrigues me. I’ve not read a proper YA fantasy book in awhile so I’m hoping this will be a hit for me!

So those are the highlights from my Autumn Book Haul!

If you’d like to see the full book haul, the video is below:

Have you read any of these books? I’d love to know your thoughts on them!

  1. You got some amazing books Ashleigh! I cannot WAIT for Priory, I’m so excited, and I need it to be February now so I can read it asap. My housemate has an ARC of The Boneless Mercies that she got in a subscription box and I’ve been eyeing it up for months at this point. I really need to acquire/borrow it and see what the fuss is about because it looks and sounds incredibly promising!

I've seen quite mixed reviews of The Boneless Mercies, but I think it sounds so good! Intrigued to see what I think.

  2. I read Vengeful at the beginning of the month and LOVED it just was much as Vicious. I really enjoyed the new characters & the focus on the female characters. I hope you enjoy!

I’ve been seeing a lot about the Orange Tree book. That’s awesome that you received an ARC. I look forward to seeing what you think 🙂
