Not going to lie, I totally stole this idea off Aimee @ The Literary Wanderlust. Though I guess it doesn’t count as stealing, considering I asked her if I could do my own…

Anyway. Definitions of words aside.

Fun Fact: I’ve been getting into classics ever so gradually. “Ever so gradually” because quite frankly, I have this bizarre notion that I’ll never understand what the hell is going on. Which…probably stemmed from the fact that classics are, indeed, a hit or miss with me when it comes to understanding and enjoy…abilty? enjoyableness?

But like with 90% of the books on my bookshelves, I’ve heard so much about these books that I just HAVE to read them. One day. Eventually.

Another classic!

I don’t know why I said that as if it were surprising. I’m part of a Jane Austen book club. I’ll be reading a classic every month 😆

But yes! This was the September book for the Austentatious Book Club. I’m actually so thrilled I managed to finish this on Friday night, considering the movie night for the TV film adaptation was on Saturday – I didn’t want to be spoiled! But I did it! *throws confetti*

I do love the Penguin Little Black Classics. So much so that I want to collect them…but as of right now I only have three. Which is a bit of a pathetically small collection, considering there’s 80.

Highly amused by the Victorian drama of… Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

In my sorry attempt at reading more classics this year, I wanted to read at least one book from each of the Bronte sisters. Not exactly sure why, it just seemed like a good place to start.

Last year I read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, and at the beginning of this year I bought Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. Since I’m a bit…hesitant…towards classics, I buy the Wordsworth editions rather than some of the prettier covers, because they’re literally £1.99 on Amazon. I love it! Plus, they’re hardly ugly covers, and they look so sleek when you have a few together. I’ll leave a link to them at the end – I really recommend the Wordsworth editions if you want cheap classics!

So finally, I actually read one.

And here we are today. Let’s see how I – a person who very rarely reads classics – fared with this one, shall we?

Discussion Post: What Makes A Book A Classic?

Well the topic of this discussion is pretty clear for the title.

I actually think about this quite a lot. What does make a classic, a classic? Who decides? Can there be new classics? Will there be any books we see as modern, new releases now that may be in the “classic” genre in years to come?

Like I said, I think about this a lot.
