Let’s Talk: Our favourite types of romances and everything they entail

favourite romances

For some unknown reason that really quite baffles me, romances are found in pretty much every single book. If you find one that doesn’t contain a romance, then shout it to the heavens because that’s a rare occurrence.

While we might not find it realistic for every story to have a romance, the majority of us can’t help but love them.

But what’s your favourite type of romance?

Let’s Talk: Can being a book reviewer ruin the overall enjoyment of reading?

reviewer-ruin

The discussion posts are back! …sort of.

Towards the end of last year, I gave the weekly discussion posts a break. Having run them for a year, I was running out of ideas, and had too many other posts that could easily take their place. And so, coming into the new year, I’ve cut my blogging schedule down. Though it might not seem like it yet, because I’m still frantically catching up with book reviews. But anyway. The new schedule is reviews on Wednesdays, and random posts Sundays – including discussions. So the discussion posts will just arrive as the ideas do!

Anyway, the first discussion post of the year is kind of one to reflect on…

Can being a book reviewer ruin the overall enjoyment of reading?

Let’s Talk: Do you give books as gifts? How do you choose which ones?

books-as-gifts

With it being December and all, I decided to make this week’s discussion a li’l bit more festive, just to get us into the Christmas spirit even more.

So with us here being bookworms, it’s probably no surprise to us if we get books as a gift. It’s the go to option and we love them.

But do you give books as a gift…and if you do, how do you choose which ones?

Let’s Talk: Do you read reviews of books you haven’t read? Or haven’t heard of?

reviews-havent-read

It’s Wednesday, and we all know what that means…another discussion kinda post!

You’d think by now I’d have figured out how to start these posts. Every other post I’m relatively OK with, but discussions? Nope.

Now. I’m pretty sure we can all relate to the fact that reviews…just never seem as popular compared to other blog posts. Right? I honestly get so surprised if one of my reviews has a fair few comments and likes. And it’s understandable. Where reviews only focus on one book and one person’s opinion of it, other posts talk about more books, or just something relating to being a bookworm in general. So, at the best of times, reviews are overlooked.

But does it change depending on the book being reviewed?

Would you read a review of a book you’ve not read…or not heard of?

Let’s Talk: Has book blogging and booktube become competitive?

competitive

Honestly, as I’m writing this now I have no idea where I’m going with this discussion. It’s just something that seems to have popped up a lot lately – especially on twitter – so I thought I’d see what you guys think.

So let’s talk – has book blogging & booktube become competitive?

Let’s Talk: When are you classed as a “reviewer”? How do you decide which books to review?

which-books-to-review

Ready for a two-pronged sort of discussion, everyone?

I personally find these questions really interesting (obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t write an entire post about it). I love knowing how other people go through their reviewing process, but I never thought to much about the process of choosing which books to review. Everyone does it differently.  And how often do you have to review to be classed as a “reviewer”?

Well, let’s talk…

Let’s Talk: The stages of our reading lives – your reading story

reading-lives

This week’s discussion is more of a storytime one. I want us all to share our stories of how we got into reading.

It’s without a doubt that to everyone here, reading is a huge part of our lives. But how did we get to this stage? How did we get so thoroughly entwined in the pages of books, that we’ve joined the book community rather than just move on?

What’s your reading story?

Let’s Talk: Can you rate a favourite book 5/5 stars if you find a problem with it?

lets-talk

With me always scheduling blog posts beforehand, this one is a bit odd because the thing that inspired it was the book review coming on Friday, which you’ve obviously not seen yet.

But, the topic is all about how we rate our favourite books. Because really…

Can we rate our favourite books 5/5 stars if we find a problem in them?

Let’s Talk: Your opinion on romance in books…do you love it?Does it make you cringe? Is it necessary?

romance-in-books

Here’s one of those discussions that’s entirely subjective. There’s no right or wrong answer, there’s no “popular opinion”. It’s just a thing to chat about really.

Romance.

Near enough every single book to exist has a romance in it somewhere.

So I’m asking you today…

What’s your opinion of romance in books?

Let’s Talk: Book adaptations – Do we want them? Are there too many?

lets-talk-2

So for this week’s discussion I’ve decided to make it a pretty easy topic.

Book to movie / TV adaptations. They’re everywhere aren’t they? And while they’re great things, there’s also that hesitant side in most bookworms.

So I’m asking TWO questions today – Do we actually want adaptations most of the time? And is there too many of them?
