stack of books

We have the beginning of a new series on this blog of mine! And it comes with a story.

Basically, for the longest time I’ve wanted to do a video/blog post recommending greek myth retellings…but so far, I actually haven’t read that many. I just really love the ones I have read, and have accumulated a lot that sound super interesting to me. But it’s going to take me a looooong time to get through all the greek myth retellings I’ve accumulated to do said list..but hey, why not show you the books I’m really excited to get to from my TBR?

So here’s the beginning of a blog series, in which I show you 5 books on my TBR that I’m really excited to get to! Each post will claim a genre, some upcoming ones being female fantasy and nonfiction. But since the original idea came from all the myth retellings I want to read – that’s what this post is dedicated to! Here are 5 greek myth retellings that are high priority on my TBR!

The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker - greek myth retelling

Goodreads | Book Depository •

The ancient stories are always male dominated, with women’s voices being pushed aside in favour of those “heroes” instead. Although let’s be real, my idea of what defines a hero definitely isn’t the type you find in many Greek myths. So imagine my excitement when finding out this book exists, giving another perspective – the women’s perspective – of the stories I’d read and loved before. Combining Homer’s The Iliad and The Trojan Women by Euripides, my anticipation for this book was REAL.

Probably more real than some of these guys’ “heroic” status.

Ohhh she said it. Continue reading The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker |Telling a tale long lost in time

Wondering what’s going on with Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

*All reviews I write are spoiler free*

Now with this book, you’d think it’d be proof that I’m catching up on the books I got for Christmas. But I can assure you, I’m not even close yet. I have wayyyyy too many books to catch up on over the past few months.

But at least this is a step in the right direction!

I didn’t actually expect to pick this one up anytime soon, but I’m in a weird book mood. I don’t feel like reading anything, but I still want to read. I’m just finding it really difficult to choose books, because I’m not in the mood for anything. I wouldn’t call it a reading slump, but it’s as close to an explanation I’ll get. But anyway, this caught my eye for the longest while choosing, so this one I have to review today.

So let’s talk about Cruel Beauty!

*sorry for the poor quality photo. It was taken late at night rather than in one of my usual photoshoots.*
