First Chapters – Deciding My Holiday TBR

Book spines - The Magicians by Lev Grossman, The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry, The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood, Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor, The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen, And I Darken by Kiersten White and I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak

Way back in January, I was shocked to find myself part of a family-holiday-booking process, something I’ve never done before. And as of right now – the very day this blog post goes up, in fact – I will be on my first holiday abroad. Who’d have thought?

So of course my biggest dilemma for the past couple of months has been trying to decide which books to take with me.** I very rarely read the “typical” holiday reads – contemporaries, romances, crime novels etc – and so there wasn’t a particular mood to go for when plucking books off my shelves. So I decided to follow Hannah’s idea (A Cup of Wonderland), and decided my reads based on the first chapters. I vastly underestimated how long it would take me to read the first chapters of 10 books and started cheating a little by not reading the entire first chapter of some (I mean, some book chapters can be a solid 50 pages long! No thanks), but either way I eventually whittled it down to 6 books, which is hugely ambitious considering I’m a slow reader and will only be there 10 days. But better to be prepared, right?

Goodreads | Amazon

The paperback from Strange The Dreamer is finally coming to the UK! *throws confetti* It’s been a long time coming, and at long last here we are. To celebrate, I’ve joined the Strange The Dreamer blog tour today, sharing my review from when I read this delight of a read and reminding you all that you should give it a go. In fact, I’ve reminded myself that I should reread it sometimes this year, especially with the second book Muse of Nightmares coming out later this year.

Anyway, enough rambling – onto the (spoiler free) review!

February Wrap Up & Favourites | Things slowing down in the shortest month…but also my birthday!

february-favourites

February. The shortest month of the year. And the month filled with love? While Valentine’s day might not be a hit for everyone, it’s not just all about romance. There’s an overall sense of gratefulness come the occasion, an appreciation for friends and family too.

Though the month is only missing two or three days, those missing days can feel like they make all the difference. We don’t quite make it to day 30 before starting again. But still, the months roll on.

❤ ❤ ❤

Let’s see what February brought…

February/Birthday Book Haul! Stocking up my physical TBR once again

feb-haul

Sooooo it was my birthday on Friday 🙂

And while I don’t make that huge a fuss about my own birthday, it does mean I was treated to some new books, and that alone is exciting for me!

Like with my December Book Haul, my main version of this haul is actually on my booktube channel, since it’s a lot easier to explain which were gifts/which I got before my birthday, along with why I’m interested in them. So the video will be down below, but underneath the books and synopsis’ will be listed for anyone who doesn’t have enough time (or simply don’t want) to watch the video.

So let’s see what books I got in February!

Big December book haul: The aftermath of a 3 month book buying ban

december-haul

Ooooohhhhh how December was a great month, haul-wise.

I’ve been on a book buying ban for THREE MONTHS. I needed to save my money for a whole bunch of different things, and so my book buying was put on hold for a whole three months. And oh how Christmas made up for that 😆

Nearly all of these books were gifts I got for Christmas, since everyone around me knows how much I love books. I’m incredibly grateful for them all and always will be ❤

This post is going to be set out a bit differently. My main version of this is actually on my booktube channel, so below you’ll find a video for this haul. HOWEVER, I’ve also listed the books mentioned below the video, with the synopsis and relevant links, so if you don’t have time (or simply don’t want) to watch the video, you can have a quick glance through instead!

The video has me full of excitement and rambling about why/how I got each book though, so I’d recommend watching it *wink*

Let’s see which books December brought me!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor | A weird & wonderful world that I have no chance of describing to you

daughter-of-smoke-and-bone

November seems to have been the month where I made my way through a lot of books I’d been meaning to get to for nearly a year. Example number 4 (after Stars Above, Between Shades of Gray and After You): Daughter of Smoke and Bone!

I GET IT. I FINALLY GET IT.

I get why everyone seems to know this book. Why it’s surrounded with hype.

And finally, I can be a part of that.

That Huge Build Up Of Books That I Hope To Read This Summer

summer TBR

You know when you sort of keep buying books and you really want to read them all but you don’t know when that’ll happen so you keep planning to read them soon and then you end up in a huge tangle of “oh my goodness what do I read now?!?”

Well, that’s basically what this post is.

I suppose this is a TBR, since I’m actually planning on reading these.

But these books are the books I hope to read this summer – well, all the books that I OWN that I plan to read. No doubt I’ll end up buying more. And obviously I’ll be reading more than just these books.

This was originally going to be a Top 10 post, but …well…there’s more than ten 😀

But anyway, I’m rambling.

Here are the books I own that I hope to read this Summer!

December Book Haul

December Haul

So it’s just been Christmas!

I hope everyone had a really lovely day yesterday ❤ I know I did – mine was amazing actually, I got so many surprises that just blew my mind! The main one being…A LAPTOP!!!! I asked for one for my 18th birthday in February but my dad decided to surprise me by giving me one yesterday! Now it will be easier for me to blog since I won’t have to use my dad’s computer on the rare occasions he’s not on it to schedule loads of posts ahead of time 😀

Anyway – back to the post.

Instead of this being just a Christmas haul, I decided to make it my December Haul, because I bought a few books before Christmas. All together there are 17 BOOKS! (EEEEEEKKKK!)

*side note: I apologize for the low quality photographs. I took them late at night on my phone camera so they aren’t as good as I’d have hoped*

So without further ado, I’ll get on with the haul!

Series I have yet to start reading!

Series I have yet to read

This post is a sort of companion, to go along with my previous blog post “Series I have yet to finish”.

Below are a list of my top 10 book series that I have been meaning to start reading. They have all my TBR for a while now, and I do still intend on reading them eventually.

Let me know if you have read any of these series, and what you think of them!

So instead of continuing to ramble on…Let’s do this!
