EVERYBODY SING! “It’s the moooost wonderful timeee of the yearrrr”

– or at least, it is if you have your gift ideas sorted. If not, then it can be the most stressful time of the year.

Now, bookworms might seem like the easiest people to buy for. What do you get a bookworm? A book. Sorted! ….or is it? You might not want to get them a book. It’s a pretty predictable gift. You might have gotten them books for the last 5 christmases and want to change it up a bit. You might still be getting them a book, but want something else to go along with it. Or even if you want to get them a book, you might not know what sort of books they’d want. There’s a lot of things to consider.

So here are my gift ideas. Now, I do have to admit that I’m really bad at coming up with gift ideas. So I’ve honestly no idea why I’m doing this post. A lot of these you’ve probably heard of before, with the amount of gift guides out there, but I’ve tried to throw in a few new ideas!

Not-So Average Books

Get a bookworm books. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be a normal book. There’s so many out there that are based off some of our favourites series.

I love the idea of getting someone one of the clothbound classics. I have all of Jane Austen’s, and I adore them. They’re so gorgeous, and if you know the person you’re buying for has a particular favourite, why not get them a new STUNNING edition? I know Pride and Prejudice is a really popular one!

There’s also the Harry Potter Vault Books – Character, Artifact, and Creature. I got my friends one of these for her birthday a few months ago and they’re seriously so interesting (if you’re a Harry Potter fan, of course). They even come with little posters too – the character vault has the Black family tree and the Creature vault has a diagram page of some sort. Wow, vague. I dont actually own either of them so I’m trying to remember from my friend’s. As you can see, it’s not going well.

Another one I’ve seen around is The Making of Outlander. This would be great for people who are fans of both the books and TV series.

Bookmarks

If the bookworm you’re buying for is anything like me, then they love collecting bookmarks. They’re a necessity, and more often than not they look gorgeous.

My favourite sort are the ones with little…string bunches (??okayy but what the hell are those actually called?) looped around the top, like the space one you can see in the photo above. There’s loads of those ones on Amazon, some with quotes, some that look quite vintage, and a lot that are relatable.

Or, if you’re feeling a bit more artsy and want to make it more personal, you could make some corner bookmarks! I love these sort of bookmarks too, and if you make them yourself you can really personalise it with the designs. As you can see above I’ve not only made one saying “to be continued”, but also painted the Hogwarts Houses, a constellation of my star sign, and the Night Court symbol from A Court of Mist and Fury. Bookends

A bit of a random one, but if the person you’re buying for has wall shelves instead of a bookcase, this one would be really helpful. There’s loads of proper bookends out there on the internet – especially on Etsy – but really, anything can be a bookend if it’s heavy and tall enough. Just look for ornaments that look pretty & have a fair amount of weight to them, add a little note to the gift to explain your idea for it to be a bookend, and tadaa!

Notebooks

 This might not be your first thought, but a lot of bookworms tend to use notebooks. I know I do – I have about 5 lying around that I use on a regular basis. Now, “a notebook” might sound a bit naff for a gift, but there’s so many lovely moleskin ones around lately.

This Gryffindor one I got as a gift myself last year, and I absolutely love it. So much so that I use it as a reading journal, something I’ll keep forever. It’s from Waterstones, and they’ve recently come out with a whole load of Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts related ones.

Bookish Prints

If the person you’re buying for loves decor or typography, this one might be for you. You can go about this one in a number of ways.

In the photo above, I actually got the print a while ago. It’s only small, about A5 size, and all I did was pop it inside a nice frame. I’ll be giving this to my friend alongside a bunch of books this christmas. My thought behind it was that she could maybe stand it atop her bookshelf or something!

But there’s also SO many bookish prints out there. I’ve seen a lot that have the page background and Quotes over the top. There’s also some gorgeous ones on Etsy, this Dumbledore quote one being a favourite of mine.

Bookshelf Decor

There’s so many things you can do for this!

I personally love decorating my bookshelves, having little odds and ends dotted around everywhere. In the photos above are just a few of the things I have decorating my bookshelves. So we have…

1. The “shhh! Reading in progress” wooden sign from Waterstones. Again, I got this as a little gift myself last Christmas.

2. A little purple dream catcher that I hang from the corner of one bookcase.

3. Some fairy lights in a jar. Yes it’s as simple as that. I also have some fairy lights hanging around the top of one bookcase, as you might have seen in my YouTube videos. But I also had a little jar lying around with no purpose, so I stuck some fairy lights inside and sit it on my bottom shelf, to brighten it up a bit!

4. A fake lavender plant. Not much to say about that one. You can get fake plants everywhere lately, even in clothes shops like Primark.

5. A jar full of bookmarks. This actually used to be a coffee jar, and all I did was make a nice label to stick on the front, and tied a load of ribbon around the edge. You could easily do this and put a few bookmarks in as a little gift!

Pop Vinyls/Funko Pops

So many people love these little friends!

Admittedly, it can be hard to find one that’s specifically bookish, but there’s so many out there I’m sure you’d be able to find something they’d like. As you can see, I have a few – Merida, Belle, and Rapunzel from Disney, Hagrid from Harry Potter, and Daenerys peeking in there from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire.

Blackout Poetry Inspiration

Here’s another one I’ve actually done myself this year!

If the person you’re buying for has an interest in poetry, why not encourage that? What I’ve done is raided a charity/secondhand shop, bought a few books that I figured she wouldn’t want to read and are already bent at the spines etc etc, ready for her to try her hand at blackout poetry. I also got her a couple of markers from Paperchase – one broad, one fine – so that she’s ready to go! Like I said before, she already knows she’s getting this and she’s so excited for it. She’s been looking through Pinterest for inspiration since I told her of my plans 🙂

Bullet Journaling

On the flip side, this friend of mine is getting me into bullet journaling! I’ve always wanted to try it.

All you have to do is get a nice moleskin notebook – preferably with dotted pages – and a set of fineliners, and you’re sorted! If you want to do a bit more, you can gather up some other supplies like tape, markers, washi tape, stickers, anything you like until you’re done.

Colouring Books

Because at some point, colouring became cool.

I have this Throne of Glass one and absolutely adore flipping through ad colouring the images. They’re so stunning to look at, and it’s really great for winding down.

There’s actually quite a ridiculous amount to choose from that are bookish – Game of Thrones, Harry Potter , The Selection series. I have to say though, one of my favourites I’ve seen is this Jane Austen one, which are sort of like postcards with images and quotes from all her books.

Mugs

I always see bookworms who are just as obsessed with collecting mugs. Me being one of them.

There’s literally so many out there – on Etsy, Society 6, in Waterstones. The one on the right I made myself. Though it’s not bookish (I made it for my dad, another gift of mine this year), you can easily write a quote they like instead, or do your own design. I made this with a plain cup and acrylic paint, so you don’t need many materials! You can also look online to see how long to leave it in the over for, though I’m pretty sure I did mine one Gas Mark 4 for 45 minutes. Don’t quote me on that though.

Snuggly Stuff

All bookworms like curling up all snuggly to read.

You could get them so many things to help with those moments – fluffy socks, cardigans, scarves, blankets, oversized jumpers, hot water bottles. Anything that helps keep in the warmth and is cosy will do!
