But I’m going to try.

PS. I tried to draw a bargain bond on my arm, hence the photo.

review new

No no no No nO Nope NOpe noPE NoPe nOpE NOPe NOPE.

I wanted this book for so long and I tried to make it last as long as I could.

I literally took a week to read the first 300 pages…and then devoured the other 300 last night. I couldn’t resist any longer.

Before going into this book I was actually so nervous. Other people’s reactions put me on edge, and I just know that Sarah J Maas has this talent of breaking me in the best way possible. I was also wondering what on earth could possibly happen for the book to be so long compared to the first.

The answer: A hell of a lot.

I swear all the way through this book my mind was just saying “OH MY GOD OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD”. I kept forgetting to take notes because all I wanted to do was read the damn book.

So much happened. SO MUCH. Sarah J Maas managed to weave together yet another complicated story, in a way that was thorough and easy to follow. I loved everything about it – the fantasy, the politics, the settings, the relationships, the new characters. There was nothing left out or forgotten about. Everything was tied together so well, and all the little connections made my little heart sing because it was just so clever.

Sarah J Maas can twist my feelings so easily. At points I’d be laughing, others I’d be cringing – sometimes I’d feel like squealing and other times I had water leaking from my eyes. I’ve become that attached to all of her books, it’s probably unhealthy. But I don’t care, I can’t help it. It’s one of those things where I just can’t explain her writing, other than saying she has a true talent for it.

The characters – I am so in love with all of the characters. Each person is complex, has a backstory, in depth personalities, you name it. Anything you’d want to know about the characters, you know. Or you find out at some later point. There’s a reason for everything that’s revealed, and it’s usually to build up each of the characters. But I can’t help but marvel at the character development of  – well, everyone. Every single person at the end of the book is so so so different to who they were at the beginning…but it’s done in a way that they’ve all changed naturally. It doesn’t by any means feel like they’re completely different people. It’s carried out so well.

The story was full of action, cunning plans, epic magic scenes, witty comments, flirting and saucy scenes – my god all the saucy scenes. I now see why this is classed as New Adult rather than Young Adult because woah those scenes.

(And I’m not going to lie, I absolutely adored them).

There’s so much emotion in this story. And I think that’s what I cling to. It feels so real, and I want to live it so badly.

This is a story of strength. Of not giving up. Of living how you want to live. Of fighting for what you believe is right. It tells you that no matter what happens, no matter what haunts you, no matter what darkness looms…you can fight your way through. And that really strikes a chord with me.

“There are good days and hard days for me – even now. Don’t let the hard days win.”

My words can’t do this book justice. At all. This book made me clench my jaw because I had that many feelings towards it, and honestly felt like screaming just to get it all out. It made me purposefully drink coffee late at night just to keep me awake longer so I could read until 3am. It made me want to throw the book at people and scream at them to read it, because I just need someone else to understand my love for all of Sarah J Maas’ books. It’s left me with this weird feeling in my stomach, knowing that I have to wait at least another year for the next book to be released.

At least Empire of Storms – the 5th Throne of Glass book – comes out in September. Just 4 months until I get to go through all this again.

And if you’re one of the people that is hesitant to read this book because you’ve heard about a certain something that happens, or have guessed from people’s reaction…trust me. The thing works. I was sceptical at first too. It’s hard but it makes sense. So much sense. Just please read the book. Don’t give up now.

And if you hadn’t guessed already…

Rated 5/5 stars! A new favourite!!!

  2. Rhysand is bae, I want Mor to be my new best friend, and I want to do unspeakable things to Tamlin (including cutting all his manly bits into little bits and feeding them to him).
